  1. Philadelphians, when the new Comcast building is finished, don't spend too much time admiring it. You may find a new line item on your monthly Comcast bill. Seriously, Comcast has scored another money-looting coup. Netflix has reached an agreement with Comcast where Comcast will give Netflix streams priority over other internet traffic ensuring the best quality reception of its programming. How much Netflix will pay Comcast for this service has not been disclosed. When Netflix subsequently raises its prices to cover the cost, non-Comcast customers will still be enriching the broadband giant. Come to think of it, Comcast customers will be paying a hidden price increase to Comcast if they also subscribe to Netflix service. I wouldn't be surprised if Comcast charges its customers a surcharge for receiving Netflix programs. USA Today article

  6. Thorn, did you not know that the reason Americans pay more for prescription drugs is so that everyone else in the world can pay less. I think the video is correct that we don't have the price negotiation that other countries have, but since we meet the pharmaceutical companies' profit expectations, they are free to sell their products more cheaply elsewhere. While we are bragging about how expensive drugs are, I should disclose that one of my cancer drugs carries a retail price tag of $24,000 for a 90-day supply. I'm glad I have a medicare drug plan which reduces my out-of-pocket cost to only $2,200.
  7. Zombie, I will pass on the opportunity to debate global warming/climate change. It would inevitably lead to political wrangling and prompt the forum moderators to close the topic as violating the rules. Suffice it to say, the weather is crazy, but then it always is somewhere. When it is crazy where you live, it becomes a topic of discussion. When enough people are discussing it, a government agency will publish a paper on the subject. When a government agency publishes a paper on the subject, it becomes political. One thing weather is not...it is not political.
  8. This has been some winter. Snow covers most of the US: See that blank spot in the middle of Tennessee? That's where I live. We have had a cold, wet winter, including record low temperatures...but no snow. Monster snow storms have passed by to the north, then to the south, then to north and south simultaneously. And here we sit...no snow and dry streets. Not complaining, you understand...just enjoying a little slice of global warming. For what it's worth...Al Gore lives here too.
