    Virus

You make me feel frustrated with humanity in this moment. Hoarding must be some ingrained primal response to perceptions of scarcity. This, combined with fear, can break us into fragments. This poem reminds me that I must be better than fears and instincts. Thank you.
  3. You heard exactly the kind of song I was singing in these. Wake means there’s nothing but a memory when I go, but I’d prefer that to be a joyous one than a sad whisper. Constancy tried to express how I feel about change, especially the change in heart of a friend I thought I’d lost. Just recently, we reconnected. Thanks for reading, and for your thoughts.

    Revelation

I can’t weep with joy in an icon. You brought about the great revelation deftly, and yet reinforcing Grant’s and Troy’s love for each other. Thank you. May they be very, very happy together.
  6. I’ve heard that a rapid change in barometric pressure can be a valid excuse to miss work in some countries. You’re right about the sound of children’s laughter. It’s a joyful song that lifts my heart. Thank you for reading, and for your response.
  7. There is a constancy to change; nothing appears to stay the same. The latter poem is an observation on a wake for an old friend, and the first considers a friendship now lost to me. Thank you for reading these and for your comments.
  8. It was such a good reminder of joy on a sad occasion. I’m grateful you read these, and for your comments.
  9. Not sure I could.
  10. Thanks for reading these two. Change is indeed inevitable and often shockingly fast.
  11. Constancy The barometric pressure points to change, and such inconstancy is no surprise for February would seem passing strange if variation never stirred the skies; so ever does it seem above the sod to those who toil and hustle through the day, the steady adaptation which they plod must stand like ancient stones against the grey. And you who once against all tempests stood, a rock unmoved by fashion, frame or fret, but e

    Five Steps

Your description of depression’s onset makes me feel the slow, pervasive shadows falling. My thoughts are with you, to sustain your light.
  13. Hank received a dose of strong spined Chase, and it seems he’s surprised. Good for Chase. Charles certainly plays a good peacemaker and honest intermediary, but in the end it’s the raw unhappiness Chase and Hank feel that overwhelms his efforts. These two may never reconnect again as they once did - I’m not sure they believe in that connection anymore.
  14. There is nothing missing in this chapter. The love and grace and joy you have written into each character is present. Grant has to find the right moment to give Troy the journal. You portray his anxiety about it amazingly well.
  15. An interesting take on the twists and turns of murder. ‘Respectable’ is a very interesting term; so many different ways to look at it as Arnold evolves. The narrative makes me wonder about Edgar’s respectability, but your skilled writing made me lose regard for Kenneth early on.
  16. Great chapter. You give us a wide ranging view of a veteran’s world which is anything but monolithic. I really like how you set up each scene with the same question.
  17. Good for Simon speaking his mind. I remember reading the book and feeling emotionally thwacked by the story. His take on the film has important truth to it. On the other hand I do hope the story of Simon and Jeff might have a happier ending. Thanks for this chapter.

    Dream

Your experiment turned out marvelously well.

    Approval

So, Brian checks up on Grant. Hmmm. Trust, but verify? But Grant’s love for Troy is genuine, which you make visible to the Quad Squad and to us. Thanks for sharing their lives with us.
  20. I enjoyed this story very much. You help me feel the anxiety of Shiro’s attraction so well.
  21. Thank you very much, both for you comments and for reading this.
  22. I really enjoyed reading these responses. Thank you @Carlos Hazday, @Cole Matthews, @northie, @Headstalland @Wayne Gray. I find that your reflections help me think about my own writing.

    March 9, 2022

I really liked the last big paragraph. That felt absolutely right to me.
  24. Thanks, Wayne. The perspective is very useful.
  25. Chase would be unusual if he didn’t feel a little ache in the gut as his friend starts dating someone new. Call it jealousy or feeling left out, he’s still going to ache. That he can try to be happy for his friend is good. That he saw Hank without an emotional explosion is even better. Their relationship appears to be at an end, but a long time may pass before anything new forms.
