    Chapter 1

What an amazing opening, it's definitely drawn me in. Now I need to get to the next chapter.
  2. All the best comments have been used , so I'll have to repeat, very nicely done, the story line flowed well and made me feel as though I was there watching.

    Chapter 4

    hehe 😂
  4. You may have noticed that I've altered slightly the way I'm telling you about my life, that's because it's easier for me verbalise and explain some parts and it's less painful for me, it still hurt's some times. I hope you don't mind too much. Chris ....... After Carl had calmed down and stopped laughing Jack took him down stairs, leaving me with Maggie and Janet. Maggie opened the windows to let some air in, it had become warm and stuffy with so many people in the bedroom. Then came
  5. There are many things that I remember from the past these are just two of the important ones, there were more honestly. Both were taught me by someone very important in my life. 1. In his words - You should always try to do your best and if you can honestly say that you have done your best then no one can expect more, but you should always try to improve on your best. 2. Not a quote but more of a code of life - To be my friend you only one qualification to be decent person, nothing else matters. To work for me you only need two qualifications, first be capable of prepared to do the job expected of you, second be a decent person. I try to live up to both of these pieces of wisdom every day, if I could be half the man he was I'd be a better man than I am today.
  6. I wish I could say that your wrong, but unfortunately you are very right, I've witnessed this on many occasions.

    Chapter 3

Back in the 1940's 50's and even the 60's, which is where the start of the story is set, this type of unfeeling attitude was prevalent in the then Child Welfare Department in the UK and possibly in other parts of the world too. Over time the service did improve, as did the training and education and the employment of Social workers with more empathy. This was marked by renaming the Department Social Services which enveloped all aspects of social care. During my time at university some redacted case histories were used to emphasise this and show how 'not' to be. In some cases what was said to children was far worse. Over time children's services have continued to improve and evolve and will continue to do so in the future. This type Social Worker is rare now and soon weeded out, forty to fifty years ago they were far more common and over time became fewer. I resigned my post as a Social Worker in 1997 due to "burnout' and frustration at working with non-caring colleagues. Most of my ex-colleagues were good caring people who did an excellent job and were as equally frustrated as I was.

I've now read both sides to this story and my brandy is even more watery and salty, it just goes show that love can and does win over everything. If I met you I would give you both a hug and kiss to wish you all the best, but as that will never happen just know that you both have my best wishes for the future.
  10. I'd love to read it can you give me a link, please, pretty please, lol
  11. I've just read this, I think I should hate you my brandy is now very watery, but really I don't, it's a beautiful story, and if this really is autobiographical there only one thing I can say, I'm happy for you and wish you a great future.

    A New Life

A nicely written idealistic feel good story. It's already a long term relationship and has the potential for a future, and follow up, if our author allows, how about it?
  13. I haven't seen the film but now I now I want to, thank you all for the reviews and recommendation.
  14. Stunning, it felt so real. I'm glad I moved my glass or I would have watery brandy now.
  15. Maybe we should ask site admin to add a couple of extra buttons, one for recommending a story and one for recommending an author. This could then produce two listings one for reader recommended stories and one for reader recommended authors. Recommendation is often used by many of us before making decisions. That raises two questions;- For readers, what do others think? For site admin, is this viable? It will be interesting to see responses.

    Chapter 3

Some good news for you, chapters 4 and 5 are almost ready and should be good to post soon

    Chapter 1

The other story is A Life - As It Was. It's about a young boy in Birmingham England who was badly abused before being adopted. It's his life, how he coped and how he moved on from his experiences. It's very different from this one. If you click on my screen name it should take you to my profile page where should find the link, or click on stories and scroll through, you should soon find it.
  18. The sound of the voices stopped but the footsteps on the stairs got closer, I was scared, so scared it made feel sick in my stomach. I was only a little boy what could I do? Nothing thats what, and that was the truth. I decided that I may as well just get it over with. I pushed Carl off me, gently this time I didn't want to hurt him again. After wiping away my tears with my hands I told Carl “I can't stop them, I'll have to go. Thank you for being nice to me but you'll soon forget me and you

    Christopher

Beautifully performed by a very talented young man.
  20. I never did tell my mum and dad, they had passed away when I came out. That is probably the only regret I have as they were very good and parents and when I think back I think they suspected. They were always very good supporting and protective parents to my brother and me as we grew up. When I told "the brood mare' and 'sperm donor', I'd contacted them after my parents died, that was the last I saw or heard from them, but hey no big deal there. Before you ask, yes we were adopted, thankfully.

    Story

Describing himself as he does I guess his 'occupation' is hitman, I can see how he would dis-associate himself from his death, he didn't 'pull the trigger' directly so he couldn't be responsible could he. Different, dark and yes gritty, a good and thought provoking story.
  22. There are a few grammatical and formatting issues and yes possibly a bit over the top with the baseball terminology, especially for those like me who don't fully understand the game. But reading past that it is entertaining read. It's a fanciful, mushy and idealistic teen romance with the feel good factor. I enjoyed it.

  23. I agree with both of you but what you have to remember is that Robbie is of British descent, as is Don his uncle/dad which brings into play the 'good old British reserve' and 'stiff upper lip'. It's been a way of life here in the UK for so long it's ingrained in all of us. Just because Don now lives in Canada don't mean that he has 100% embraced the Canadian attitude to life, I've seen that among many ex-pats when I've visited friends in Vancouver. All that aside it's a good story with lot's of fun, drama and emotion, all of which have their place in life and the story. The story could carry on more, but then the line has to be drawn somewhere. Maybe a follow-up could be good but it's necessary.

I wondered what would make what the last case so stressful, really the answer is in the story....

    Chapter 1

Hi Tonyr. Thanks for a positive reaction they are always welcome. To try to answer your question, I'm currently writing another story which is currently partly posted and on a different topic. I'm not sure if I will follow it up it's on older piece of work previously unpublished. If I do, and really would like to, then it will be when my other story is completed and I may ask for some help with this one.
