    I know what my reaction to it was in Spain - ohhhhh sh*ttttttttt. Salary cuts, 8% increased hours, company life insurance policy eliminated, 100% healthcare coverage gone, and mortgage up to 12%……. Oh for their millions..

    I suddenly remember the old disco hit line: “last night a DJ saved my life from a broken heart”, for me it was a therapist, for others finding true love. For my students in UK (*) who had been abused by priests, strangers, parents etc., they needed that outside help when other relationships couldn’t handle such things. Yet for others, human altruistic love was enough. (*) I taught courses in Sexual Ethics and there was always someone hovering after certain units….

    I totally agree with my learned colleague! I’m a bit behind with the two stories but this chp is so well-written. There are so many lines I wish I could have created. Green with envy of @Robert Hugill’s talent.

    And here in Valencia the weather is ridiculously nice. Walked on sea front with Criminals 001and 002, with tight security force of course. Temperature was 25°C, nearly 80°F. 30 beach volleyball courts in use. 32°C in car……. and climate change doesn’t exist? It should be 15° and pissing down in January here. So sad to read of the terrible fires.

    To all GA readers in US, here in Spain we are inundated with the awful images of S Cal. Many years ago I remember visiting LA after the terrible riots and coming into land we saw a scarred landscape from the rioting and fires. We were invited to dinner by a delightful coups who had what looked like a small bungalow up in the Palisades, surrounded by mansions. The we walked on to their terrace. Turned out they had one of the original fairly simple buildings and had resisted every offer to sell up so another anonymous mansion could be erected. so in October in Valencia we had horrific floods and 200+ deaths, now the terrible fires Stateside. Mother Nature has it in for us…..

    An interesting question but as I view @weinerdog as a decent puppy, it has to be the Incarnation of Evil, herself! hope school went well today. My first January as retired. It felt good until my classes this pm to supplement my pension…. Kids were hyper as yesterday was the celebration of the three Kings bringing presents. 🎁

    @kbois, the crime level has soared since we returned from holiday. Lilibeth aka Spawn of Satan decided we are watching too much 📺 and 🛜 so chewed through various cables and cut off both. She also ate about four inches of cable, damning evidence which was produced the following morning on our walk. Back to the jailhouse she goes……
