Hmm! I wonder if future developments in understanding different ways of communication might change that? Maybe our searches are too much in human terms?

    Part 13.

    Great to hear.
  4. Another context meaning for 'bike' - here in Aus. if we say 'Get on your bike' it can mean 'Go away, you're not wanted'.
  5. Years ago my dad (Aussie) went on an exchange trip to Canada, and, needing help of some kind went to the neighbors. The misunderstanding that ensued when he said, 'I'm sorry to knock you up like this.' was monumental.

Thank you Dathi. The Mparntwe Council, the AIs, and Jarra, all react strongly. Mirri too but in a different way. (Hmm - almost spoiler material there)

    Chapter 22

Brian, I'm sorry to hear that I upset you with the death of Barega in the latest chapter of Mparntwe. It was the first time I've attempted to treat sadness at the death of a major character in any of my stories so it was hard for me too. As part of the plot line I have in mind for the Diaspora, I knew before I even started Mparntwe that Akama's brother would die. I did try to put more of the focus on Akama but I also needed to show their relationship and make Barega real in reader's minds. The full reasons for this sad event won't be developed in Mparntwe. That will have to wait for a different story in the series. Palantir

    Chapter 22

Thanks M, It was a difficult chapter, trying to present a huge amount of both action and emotion. And yes, you've done it again. The effect on Akama takes him to the stars, and eventually to his leadership of Attunga.

Thank you. Yes, I'm such a softie that I had to use the tissues at times when I was writing.

    Chapter 22

MPARNTWE Chapter 22. Alerted by the carrying call of a cooee, three trained agents rushed to station themselves at a high point very close to Jarra's resting place. Two stayed at the commanding viewpoint while the third scouted for any signs of the quarry they knew must be close. Traces of footprints, some vegetation flattened as if someone had been lying flat, then the glisten of a buckle through a gap in a low shrub informed the practised mind that the target group had been right here. Showdown at the OK Corral! - I mean the school parking lot. I was surprised by Calvin - I'd developed a different understanding of him from earlier. My stand out phrase for this chapter was 'soft noises'.

  21. He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good. W Auden. I wouldn't say that 'inspirational' is quite the right word here but I find these words of loss so powerful I'm moved every time I think of them.
