    Chapter 15

The life Micah is leading is taking a toll. While he realizes some of it, he is too inexperienced to realize just how much his socialization is lacking in real interpersonal relationships. It was a good job presenting a chapter that certainly had it's ups and downs just like life.
  2. "His April fools joke should not come as a surprise to anyone, I'm sure he will explain it on 4/2/13." All the while claiming it is really December 122nd......
  3. I did get the book cover, but you can scroll down and read a fairly lengthy 13 pages of the book....
  4. An April Fools birthday..... I bet you have had just about every trick anyone can think of played or attempted on you. At any rate, I hope your day is joyous yet mellow, filled with love and contentment from your family and friends. So have a very Happy Birthday and may you have many, many more!

    Chapter 14

Read the 14 chapters posted and love the story but really feel sorry for Micah.
  6. While you enjoy your spring break, please spend a little time, while being serenaded by the surf, daydreaming about George & his minions as well as the whole panoply of your CAP saga!
  7. All kidding aside, CJ is a living personification of a cliff hanging sort of person. And his work more than examplifies that attribute.

    Easter Update

Flying sucks! And it has gotten worse in the past dozen years. So I hear you. The idea of making board games based on chemistry topics is a cool way for them to retain things. Sounds like the kids will miss you after you relocate. I've been to Alaska a couple of times. It's wonderful from about May to October. The rest of the year not so much. Too dark for me. Also the older I get the more I do not like cold weather.
  11. The acquisition isn't expected to close for a while yet and if Amazon continues to operate the site pretty much as is (albeit I expect there will be links to Amazon to buy any of the books mentioned) the site should be ok as long as it is supported by people who actually like to read and review as has been the case in the past. I too think that Amazon is taking over the world but I have to admit I use them a lot and have gotten good service and value for my money. DDK
  12. Just read your story and loved it. Although some of our Southern friends might conclude it was just two more Yankees from Michigan and Ohio profiting from the defeat of the South. (Said with my tongue fully in my cheek!)

    Chapter 4

I drank beer in highschool. I can see where the youngster is coming from, but it's a team rule and rules have consequences that can be fairly onerous. Dean however fails to understand that he is putting Jason in a very uncomfortable role and even called him on it; repeatedly. Brothers! Been there and still there, I have 4 of them. So yeah I get where Dean is coming from and also from where the rest of the housemates are coming from as well. The funny thing is, that when I was in my twenties, they lowered the legal age for beer in most jurisdictions to eighteen and the rationale was that if someone was old enough to get drafted and go to war, they were old enough to drink. Less than a decade later, the drinking age was returned to twenty-one. The number of teenage deaths involving alcohol came down considerably after that. Maturity is not a straight line and doesn't occur predictably by age, but the results speak for themselves.
  14. You and your family remain in my prayers. DDK
  15. It has always been a dangerous world. The 20th Century saw the worst toll on humanity and the environment from war of any in human history. The 21st Century may eclipse that toll.
  16. Saw an article about this on NBCNEWS.COM. Loved the line about the joystick control. #!
  17. Thanks for the latest Granger fix. Somehow, I suspect that Calvert's mission will not be all that easy. George's plan to keep the large ship boxed in also may prove less than tedious.

    Chapter 36

The important take-away I got from the chapter was from Calvert analyzing his relationships and his intentions on how to act. However, Calvert being Calvert, I suspect his best intentions will founder with Gatling. Men on board ship for long periods of time and all that....
  19. Another time to once again use the oft quoted: "He doth protest too much!"
  20. Even thought it is now the day after your birthday in your part of the world, I just wanted to add my congratulations!
  21. It's not Celtic but he looks like a Shadow to me. P.S. Whatever you name him, he is adorable!
  22. Wayne, you are in my prayers!
  23. This clip is from a recent Letterman show featuring the best Elvis Impersonator singing a selection of his songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=G8fjHJbF9Es The orchestration and the two back-up group of singers along with the staging make this. Turn up your sound if like Elvis.
  24. The thing that deters me the most is a boring story with no plot or character development. A damn good story can be enjoyed despite poor grammar or the breaking of all your enumerated fckups above. --Except perhaps, the one on breaking up overly long paragraphs with little or no white space.
  25. You are right that every country has things in its past that diminish them. And our country was very much wrong in the way it was built with no respect for native cultures, the use of slave labor, inequality for women, and its expansionism. However, the genius was that we evolved and overcame those blunders. Some at great cost. Most people today have no idea of the great cost of our Civil War. Further the assessment that today's generation is the worst ever is hyperbole of the worst sort. But since 1980, what great progress have we made socially in America? We have more poor and more poor as a percentage of the population. We used to be country that valued education and made it affordable but as a percent of budget, both state and federal, that has declined. When I was in college, a student could work part-time and pay their own way through a state school. Now students are burdened with student loans that they will be paying until they are in their forties. Politicians used to know how to reach across the aisle and get things done. The headlines today make hay out of the fact that the US Senate passed a budget proposal for the first time in four years and it was by a bare majority of the Democrats. If any of the polls are to be believed at all (and yes some of them got the election right) a clear majority of the American people believe the budget should be brought under control by a mix of cuts and tax reform. Does anyone believe that there will be any meaningful tax reform with the closing of loopholes? So I guess, the point of my blog is to start to get people to actually start thinking and doing something and not just rely on a limited source of information before coming to conclusions. It really is up to the people to force the kinds of change we want for America to be all she can be. If it's going to continue to be every man for himself, I'm making mine and to hell with everyone else, then I guess this is nirvana.
