I found this to be incredibly sad despite Brion's ability to overcome adversity. I stopped reading the opening several times before I could plow through and see where it was going. Knowing the title and our author I could immediately see where this was going and it was not my happy place...
That Brion made multiple attempts at suicide did not surprise me but added to the sadness. That despite the pain, frustration, maddeningly slow progress and herculean effort he was able to move forward and regain some function demonstrated his determination. I think the introduction to Brion was well written but a bit brief. Thankfully so, as it was sad enough.
