Stories

This is a collection of short stories, flash fiction, poems, and whatnot. Some may have touches of humor, others not so much, while others speak the truth. I will cover many grounds, each with a taste for a new world and premise.

Roan has a pretty normal life. He's managed to buy a house in a nice neighborhood overlooking a lake; he has a decent job, a few groups of friends, and even a god son. What he doesn't have is a lot of experience in romance and, even what he does have has been questionable at best. One night, when the wife of his friend comes to his house with his god son in tow...things start to change in ways he's just not equipped to handle.

Most of Rick’s life was performed solo and in quiet. He told himself he liked it that way, preferring to keep even his closest friends away from his secrets. But an aggressive woman and a stranger in town found a way to bring out his inner music.

Small town life still exists like this. The pace is slow, and everyone knows your name. And your business.

One day, the letters from Beck's fiancé stopped arriving.

Instead of accepting heartbreak, however, he decides to find out just where his fiancé had disappeared off to. It isn't long before Beck traces his lover's steps to Wiccamore, an old island town that most people in the world had never even heard of.

At every turn, Beck finds himself at odds, either pushed to delve deeper into the island's madness or pressured to leave. If he hopes to uncover his fiancé's fate, however, Beck knows that leaving simply isn't an option.

Davey Jones thought changing the past would fix everything.

His second leap through time drops him into danger with no clear way out—hunted by someone who knows his secret and faced with a future he barely recognizes. Friends turn into strangers. Strangers turn into threats. And every choice could erase him forever.

For those who don’t know the rules, the task is to write a new poem for each day of the month of April.

“The Rashomon Effect” describes an event given contradictory descriptions by each person involved. It describes the unreliability of eyewitnesses. Every element of the story is largely identical, but the dishonest retelling of the events shows each person’s ideal self by lying.

Gay lawyer Ben Carleson – from In The Plan – is back, this time in 1985, near the beginning of his career and soon after he finished law school and passed the California bar exam. But he and Gene De Wijk met over a different kind of bar.

April is National Poetry Writing Month, and this is my collection for 2021. The goal is to write 30 poems (one per day) throughout the month. The majority of poems are responses to prompts supplied by Jan Hutchinson. Since I turn fifty this year, a lot of them will feature remembrances, musings, and thoughts about the next fifty. A retrospective of my life.
