Moggy's Mutterings - 21. Quilting

mention of childhood sexual assault

1.

Worthless.
Not even valued to pass time with.
Worthless.
Not worth acknowledgment.
Worthless.
Not worth time, friendship, love.
Worthless like pieces of cloth tossed away.
Trash.

2.

Where to start.
Putting together a life,
out of broken pieces of a shattered spirit.
Ball it all up and toss it away?
Perhaps piece it together.
A quilt of a life that is past.
Which piece to use?
This one, the gentle hug?
Or that long ago one, the rape in the dark closet?
Maybe the memory of the cat purring?
Perhaps the beatings of an old lover?
Stitched together to form a life.
Reinforcing the threads around the good.
Letting the bad rot, as time passes.
All these make the cloth we wear into the future.

3.

As I lay my weary body upon my bed, as day melts into night.
Stars play peek-a-boo through the trees and i let my mind wander.
Of the times and people I left behind, either by my choices or theirs,
I know, no matter how my heart aches and my soul cries,

I am were I’m supposed to be.

i'm in a dark spot

Your poetry is downright soulful. I could give a damn anymore about how unqualified I am to discuss poetry, because for me...this is more than that. I recently said to a friend that I felt foolish publishing my ramblings, and that poetry to me, like jazz is an intellectual's game. Screw that noise. What falls out of my head may seem like disorganized rambling, but it makes sense to me. lol Reading your poetry is like listening to the blues. It has a deep down pull from the gut feeling to it. Many of us know the pain of loss, physical and mental abuse, neglect, and have lived lives filled with tragedy. But you my dear can reduce a person to tears. In your words I do not hear self pity. I hear the survivor.

Thanks for sharing moggy.

thanks rj. everyone is qualified to speak if a poem or writing calls to them. i don't care much for jazz, but the blues and blue-grass is a whole other thing :) it's a scary thing to put your work and, thereby you, out there.  authors are more brutal in criticism of their works, than others are. most here on GA are supportive of each others writing. can't wait to see more from you. as to being a survivor, half the time i think i'm too stupid to know how to quit.

i try always to keep in the front of my mind is this: if we don't know pain, how would we know joy?

These are all very gut-wrenching, but #2 is particularly good.  I think RJ's comment was spot on.  I also hear the survivor.  Sorry you're in such a dark place right now.  I hope you see some light soon.
