J.A.M. - 4. Chapter 4

J.A.M.

By: Wesley Lewis

Entry 9

They argued for about an hour until I heard a door slam. Looking out the window I saw Mr. C leaving again. I crept down the stairs to the kitchen and found Drew crying alone. We sat there for about ten minutes before he stopped and thanked me. When I asked what was wrong he kind of clammed up. I asked him if it was about me, and he said it was. When I asked how long I had to pack he laughed and said I wasn’t going anywhere. He sat me down and told me something that I found hard to believe. He got up and showed me a picture he had of his ex-wife and I was shocked. It was Mama!!!!!! I asked him what it had to do with me and he said that the man she had an affair with was my father. When I asked why would he want the kid that ruined his marriage he told me that I hadn’t ruined it she did. He also tried to explain to me something about the blood tests today but I just sat there numb. I think I’m going to take a nap now.

Entry 10

Holy Crap! I just realized what Drew was talking about with the blood tests. I think he was trying to say he was my father. It would explain why he looked pale when he saw Mama’s picture. I guess I should start paying attention to people when they’re talking to me. Guess I’ll be back in a bit.

Entry 11

Well now I know why Mr. C is pissed. He doesn’t want to be a stepdaddy he wants to be a daddy. Apparently, he wanted to adopt a kid with his partner but didn’t want his partner to already have kid. So, he’s spending a few days away while me and Drew get to know each other more. It’ll take some time getting used to being around a guy who was my father I never knew I had. I just don’t see what Mr. C’s problem is, he treated me like a son before now he just ignores me. I hope he will stay I’d love for him to be my dad also. Drew told me that tomorrow we would meet his grandparent, and I’m excited because Mama and Daddy’s parents died before I was born. He also told me it would take a week before the blood tests would come back before we knew if we were father and son. Truthfully, I don’t care either way, the only time since my parents died I felt like I had a father was Mr. Ford, who let’s face it was more like a grandfather, was now with Drew. We bonded over vanilla ice cream and Doctor Who, his favorite doctor was the Tom Baker, while mine was Jon Pertwee. Of course, we both liked Star Wars and Star Trek. I found out he is also a big comic book nerd. We decided to go out for dinner with Chinese in mind. After dinner we sat down to watch the newest Star Wars movie. Soon after we finished we went to bed, in the first time since my parents died, I told someone that I loved them and heard it back.

Entry 12

My grandparents are awesome, or at least Drew’s are. The asked me to call them Nana and Papa, which seemed fine to me. Apparently, they have been dying to meet me since Drew told them about the fostering. Nana baked these awesome oatmeal raisin cookies, while Papa had made some vanilla ice cream like they did in the good old days. They were so amazing, they asked me all about my life and everything and told me about themselves. Papa served in Korea in the Army while Nana was a nurse. Drew almost died of embarrassment when they brought out old picture albums. It was funny to see what he looked like when he was younger and how similar I looked to him. I don’t think I need a blood test to prove he’s my real father but I can’t hold it against him because Mama was trying to get out of her marriage. I don’t know her reasons but I don’t hold it against her either because she gave me a great life with Daddy. After promising to visit again soon we left and went home. When we got there, I noticed Mr. C was back and tried to go up to my room but was stopped by Mr. C. He sat us down and apologized for his behavior. He had only been away for one night and started feeling guilty about how he was treating us. He explained how it came that they would foster me and it was a shock to his system to learn about who my mother was and my connection to his husband. I can’t really blame they guy, I would’ve had a cow too. I hugged him and told him I forgave him. I couldn’t be mad at them man, he was one of the few stable things in my life. So, I went to bed and left them to talk. I will say there was some yelling but I don’t think I should’ve heard the things they were yelling from the bedroom!

Next time on Diary:
We meet Mr. C's dad Pop-Pop.
Also Phillip visits.
Plus teenage awkwardness!
Come back same bat time on the same bat site!

I think we can all agree though that he was way better than Christopher Ecclestian though

I don’t know, I kind of liked Christopher Eccleston. He had a certain energy that was fun. Colin Baker just got on my nerves!

I’m not really sure how I’d rank these two against each other. There definitely were several other Doctors I like better!

I realized I got the wrong baker I meant Tom because he had the scarf. Its fixed now.

I had my mother knit me a long scarf – it’s not as long as the one Tom wore, but it’s longer than standard. It’s off-white rather than multi-colored – she wouldn’t have understood in either case! It’s one of the few tangible things I have to remember her with.

I used to watch Doctor Who (4/5/6/7) on KTEH/San José before they got taken over by the behemoth, KQED/San Francisco. KTEH used to show a lot of BritComs. Red Dwarf too. I liked having two PBS stations in the Bay Area – there used to be three until KCSM/San Mateo decided to pull out of PBS. Now we only have KQED and KQEH (the former KTEH, aka KQED Plus) – at least with the digital sub channels I get KQED World. (KCSM has a digital sub channel that shows France24 in English 24/7.)

I was surprised by Mr. C's reaction to the news. I think he should of thought it out, and considered Jam's feelings first. Jam seems to be a kid who takes things in stride, and accepts what life tosses at him. But he is still a vulnerable teen who always keeps in mind that he can be uprooted at any moment. Mr. C being a teacher should understand this. Jam could have taken his new father's running away as rejection. Hopefully things will work out for them all, and they can move past the shocking news.

This chapter was very moving. Nice job Wesley. Looking forward to the next. ;)

Thanks RJ. Jam's definitely vulnerable. Mr. C is kinda a flighty guy. When we meet his father we will get more insight to him.

I only saw a few episodes with Radagast the Brown, but I stand by my assertion that Colin Baker was the most annoying and frustrating of all the Doctors!

My least fave was the first William Hartnell, his portrayal left me feeling sorry for his companions. He was a condescending jerk. But the new Christmas special may see the return of the original companions Susan Foreman, Barbara Wright, and Ian Chesterton! With David Bradley (Walder Frey GOT, Argus Filch Harry Potter series) returning as the First Doctor!!
