By Chance or Appointment - 30. September Sun

I hope it's not too late to post this. As is ever the case, any errors you detect are my own.

To the Sun

September sun, shine down upon the field

and garden which your kindliness makes green

wherein the tastes of summer days are sealed

enough to make a wintry mortal keen

when February’s chilly arms embrace

the hill and forest in its icy sheen,

remember us, in dreams of Queen Anne’s lace

through endless nights the spirit may corrode

and from each countenance a smile erase,

avow to them who strive against the goad

or shiver as the seed in frozen ground

that once again you’ll stride on summer’s road

and warm again hearts withered, cold and browned

so that with ripened love we may be crowned.

Once again, thank you for taking time out to read an offering posted here. I'm grateful for any comments, reflections or suggestions you may have.

Mmm...reminds me of today. It was so cold as we walked in the shade, but the fall sun still warmed us. The sun is always a welcome visitor.

It was cold here, too. But when the clouds parted to let in the sun, I stood in the warmth, soaking it in, and committing it to memory. The sun won’t forget to return in spring, but I hope my spirit remembers it when it does. Thanks very much for reading!

This has the feeling of a prayer in its cadence and words. Superb. I too speak my thanks to the sun many times throughout the year, whether the sudden and powerful sun of spring, the energy stealing one of summer, the comforting one of fall, or the shy sun of winter. There is naught like warmth on an upturned face. :)  Cheers!

You have given the sun four characters, four personalities, which deserve a poem in themselves. I guess this prayer is a plea for a promise, in the way a child begs a beloved grandfather to promise to return. Many thanks for reading!

Your poems are so lyric and calm. Nature is endless inspiration, and you show the Nature in all her glory through your verses.

I like poetry but reading it might be a challenge for someone whose native language is not English. It cannot be a fast read for sure.

I hope that this poem is worth the effort to read and de-code. Nature is unquestionably inspirational in any season, yet it has been especially so lately. Thanks so much for your thoughts.
