....Nice work, I am a bit worried about your knowledge of weaponry though.

Don't ! We are a lot here with some knowledge of weaponry (DK, CJames among the authors; Benji, myself among the readers) :boy: . It doesnt mean that we are not peaceful guys

Part of my resume: I once worked for the company that wrote the software that allows Tomahawk cruise missiles to read digitized maps. [At that time I was working on software for combat engineers]. I have worked on/programmed Sun workstations that are used on AEGIS cruisers to run the battle management software.

I am far more knowledgeable about the older stuff. I know my way around a long sword, a broad sword and a number of other swords as well as being pretty swish with spear, bill and javelin but guns and missiles leave me cold. Much prefer to see the whites of their eyes :) :) And I am a peaceful gal too.... mostly. ;)

Sure you are ;)

So they saw the nuc that donated long in san diego or in Phoenix? I find that what barlow said to tom rains true in terrible situations. I take it a team will dispose of the nuc that got shot down.

Im also liking tom more he's a good leader, Farmer twins must of impressed tom a bit :)

First, I have to say that I support all the enthusiast comments about your story.

James, you seem to be a specialist in matter of nuclear war. Reading your story and imagine what could happen life brought me to ask a few questions about the real situation from which you build your story.

Which kind of bombs the Chinese possess and used above Phoenix ? A or H ? How many KT ?

Are the US Inland Forces of today ready to react against a nuclear attack, protecting the civil population, fighting against the consequences of the nuclear attack (firewall, radioactive clouds, aso) ?

Did you hear about Global Guardian and the experiences made in the past ? I found following explanations in Wiki : Global Guardian is an annual command-level exercise sponsored by the US Strategic Command in cooperation with Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command. The primary purpose of the exercise is to test and validate nuclear command and control and execution procedures. Exercise objectives include live communications and the participation of all elements potentially assigned to USSTRATCOM in wartime, including USSTRATCOM's Mobile Consolidated Command Center (MCCC), USSTRATCOM's Airborne Command Post (ABNCP), and external participation from national-level and other unified commands.

Do you know anything about same exercises on lower level, including civil defense and Red Cross like-organizations?

Today, almost everybody has forgotten the times of the Cold War, with the shadow of a nuclear attack on the Western world. As an officer in Elint and Humint in the sixties, I participated to the preparations of the defense structure (military and civil) to reduce the consequences of a nuclear attack. Our readiness war above all a psychological one, building nuclearproof shelters, teaching the specialists of the air-protection troops and testing the readiness of both population and army. it's why your story is not just a story for me ; old memories come to life again.

Another part of Twilight that is fiction: China doesn't have Alfa class nuclear powered attack subs that Sea Dragon is fighting with.

The Russians are happy to sell them Kilo diesel subs, dangerous in their own right, but they aren't likely to part with the design of their best attack boat any time soon. The Russians have sold some Alfa's to India.

I implied that the Chinese may have procured the design via espionage.

Twilight Chapter 15: The Eagle and the Dragon

is available NOW!

B)...................Another great chapter!!! It looks like Eagle Rock will be soon swamped with casualties from the Phoenix area, hopefully they will not overrun the place. China was able to get in some nasty punches, but will pay heavily for it. The clock has to be ticking down for North Korea to act, they have to be aware of the nuke strikes in the U.S. The next chapter is going to be a real mess!!! Haha! Good stuff James!

......I too had an axe to grind in writing Twilight. We live in a dangerous world and we need to understand that a lot more than good intentions is required. Some of the key systems in Twilight have been cut or canceled by the Obama administration. If we do indeed have to fight a war without those systems, we are going to be badly hurt.

Thanks for your detailed answers to my questions :worship:

I share your fear about the use of nukes in some "hot" regions. My only hope is that intelligence (both russian and US) could work together to prevent it and inform soon enough the big four (US, China, Russia and EU)so they could intervene. Informal contacts between their leaders (as you decribe it in your story)could help. Remember the "red phone" between Moscow and Washington during the cold war.

BTW, the way you show the details of the fights in chapter 16 is a model of description, short, precise, live, as in a thriller :worship: again !

I'm following since years the foreign policy of China. It's more and more going its own way, far from the ideology which leads the intern policy. Dont forget, USA and China are tied up through the US Tresor Bonds and obliged to work together, at least in economical matters. So why not in sharing the World domination in the future ?

I also look forward to more interaction with the boys :)
That's nice. What I like in this story (And I dont find it in more than one of the others, is that I can identify myself with the heros. They seem to never be "loosers", always finding the right solution and winning against their enemies. It's really calming, to know they will always win :P:P:P . Edited by old bob

B)............What with China attacking the US unprovoked with nukes, I don't see us sitting together at the kitchen table and cutting the pie up. Besides their leaders are about to receive a care package from us! I see N. Korea and folding up camp as a revolution takes place in the aftermath. As far as the economics? I think we forget our debt to them.

Hey, We are here in "Story Cafe" and should talk about a story. I made a mistake. The last posts (mine and Drewbie's one) concern the "Real China" and should be transfered to soap box. Benji, I agree with your comments if it concerns the China described by James in his story.

B)............Yep, my apology to James! I got off track as it happens when threads go astray.

Seriously in this chapter I think China and North Korea will eventually fall from power thanks to their governments actions. The people in both countries will revolt against the leaders, North Korea will re-unite with the south. China will move towards democracy as well, with the leaders now dead and more than half it's military gone. This chapter was all military strategy and the chess game is in favor of the US. Russia is waiting in the wings, maybe to wait and see or go forth on an attack of it's own during the crisis and try and recapture the post USSR holdings it lost after the end of the cold war maybe even expand. Once the 'nukes' were brought out, the game changed, Vietnam will be silent as will most countries as the advantage would not work well with the Pacific Fleet on high alert. Once the dust clears, skirmishes may abound in regions with centuries old tensions between them. James has brought the scenario the of reality of such first strike, however I question the Chinese motives in striking the targets. I understand San Diego, but why Phoenix? I know there were 'multiples' in those fired missiles and most were taken out, I'm sure Denver, Las Vegas (Hoover Dam, Nellis Air Force Base and Indian Springs) were intended the intended targets of that one fired missile. Waits for next week's chapter......Checkmate!

Twilight Chapter 17 - Errors is up.

B)............Humm, China made many tactical errors, losing everything they threw at Taiwan. NK, lost the element of surprise and should have backed down after it's early losses. I see another civil war brewing, but this time the north will surrender easily, as food supplies disappear and moral declines. The new Medical CO, makes a mistake in affronting Tom and crew. He may be just jealous of their new found fame. Great Chapter James look forward to more!!
