…which are “common in the southern and western United States“ but Encyclopaedia Britannica’s T&C don’t actually guarantee they’re not also happily nesting in other parts of the US (including behind your cupboards)

Who wants to watch thirty minutes of a guy feeding his pet tarantulas? :P

PS: no vertebrates were harmed in the making of this video.

Good advice, and don't get married when you're drunk either.  You could end up with similar results.

As long as he doesn't bring the tarantulas into work to feed them.

Yes sir!

William Shatner in Kingdom of the Spiders?  This would have been between the Original Star Trek TV series and before the Star Trek movies.  I guess he couldn't get away from those weird looking co-stars. like the Klingons, Romulans, Andorians, Balok, etc.

spider falls GIF

Now that's a big freaking spider.  The guy needs a much larger container and possibly some help, because even if he gets the spider in the container, it could merely jump out as the guy climbs down.  He needs someone with a lid to slip over whatever he catches the spider in to make sure it stays inside.

Appears to be a water spider trying out his water wings.

He seems to have mastered the technique and is giving us a classic demonstration of the principles of surface tension.

Surface tension - Wikipedia

Is this a spider cyclops?

Having mastered the use of surface tension and using himself as bait, he appears to be an accomplished fisherman.

Score - Spider 1 / minnow 0.

Either way it's still creepy.  Did the spider lay its eggs in the Cicada and the young ate their way through it, or was it just a convenient hiding place?

It doesn't surprise me that a spider has learned to make decoy's. I've seen many a Sparrow fly under the roof of the loading dock at work like Hummingbirds searching for bugs hiding.
