Popular Post Pmsingtiger Posted June 8, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 8, 2018 My husband is terrified of spiders. To get even with him for last April fools day, which he asked me for a divorce over the phone while I was in a dollar general - yes I was crying and no I did not know it was April 1st, my mistake. So the following year I bought a tarantula - yes a live one - from my friend's pet store for $25 and I put that thing in his lunch box and waited for the phone call. It was amazing. 5 2

That'll teach him to make his own lunch from now on, and to not play cruel jokes, April 1st or not. What happened to the poor spider ? 2

On my Monday update (22 Oct) I had a joke about Australian Spiders. Not many see it there, so here is a re-post of it. Naturally @Timothy M. and I were among the few who saw the original posting. Timmy’s Spidey-sense alerted him to your Status Update! That and a Mention. ;–) 1
quokka Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 Australian seems to be the continent with the most venomous animals and insects in the world. Scorpions, snakes and spiders being the main ones. 1 1
Solivagant Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 I know plenty of people who are terrified of spiders, but they don't scare me personally. I really don't mind them, at all. Cockroaches on the other hand... I find them revoltingly disgusting! A few years ago, I couldn't even sleep in a room if I was aware that there was a cockroach. Nowadays, I'm doing much better, but not by much. 1 1

My mother would carefully remove the tinsel from the tree along with the lights and ornaments when we took the tree down. It would be packed away with the other decorations. We were very poor and my parents were extremely frugal. ;–) 1

And I like the idea of spider ornaments. I want some of those. Spoiler Regarding one thing the article mentioned, of the Child Jesus turning the cobwebs into silver and gold, I was reminded of a thing I learnt recently. In the Czech Republic (and I assume elsewhere in former Czechoslovakia and other countries in the area) gifts aren't brought by Santa Claus or Father Christmas, but by the Child Jesus. It's become a largely areligious tradition, and the baby appears sometimes depicted as a cupid-like cherub, or sometimes as an older child, often wearing something similar to a Santa hat. I find holiday traditions from across the world fascinating. 4

That's another version of the same one. How fun! When my mum was a kid, they were visited by the Yule Goat. Didn't look anything like the Santa-like figure presented in that photo, though. Looked more like this: Spoiler Much like the children in this photo (from a 19th century Swedish children's book by Elsa Beskow) my mum hid under the table the first time she saw the Yule Goat... It was my grandfather in a mask, of course. He used to be a thing in Swedish tradition as well. The name has just remained in Finland and is now used for Santa Claus. In Norway, we always had the 'nisse', which was part of the inspiration for the modern Santa Claus. EDIT: We're way off topic now, we'd better stop. Edited December 22, 2019 by Thorn Wilde 3

Well if Zombie’s hiding under your chair, he’s closer to the wasp and spider. Since the wasp isn’t flying around, they'll go after him first. That leaves you much safer because you’re standing on top of the chair! ;–) 1

You kind of have to want it to sting you, or step on it or something, at least according to this dude who got stung on purpose cause apparently that's his idea of fun. It's mostly only aggressive if you're a big-ass spider. 2 2

Sherye Story Reader Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Well, we have brown recluse spiders here and if they bite you then it will eat your skin up. It took me a long time to heal my husband's foot from that with hydrogen peroxide and triple antibiotic cream. So no I don't like spiders. 2
Drew Espinosa Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I'm never setting foot in Australia. 2 3
