Not sure how far it is, but I can walk to a grocery store - one that I like, that is - in 15 minutes, and department stores are a short subway ride away. Even though, I grew up in the ‘burbs, I don’t think I could ever leave the city now.

The lack of walkability is a,big con of living in the burbs.  The grocery is probably only a 20 minute walk or so, but no sidewalks.  I could do it alone but I have the 3 year old so.....

That would be hard.

I have a grocery store, a small restaurant and a dry cleaner within walking distance, but anything else I would probably need to drive to...it's not even the distance, but the traffic.

Yes.  The main road here is a state route and is quite busy.

I miss living in an area where you could walk to stores.

we can't walk to any of the stores, but we have a great little town square.  we shop there for our dog treats, salsa & hot sauces and gifts at the unique boutiques and antique stores.  there are quite a few restaurants as well, that aren't chain places.

I'm glad I live in the city. I'm even more glad I live in this city. The neighbourhood I live in looks like suburbia, but the metro stops 2 minutes from my front door, and takes fifteen minutes to the city centre. I don't even have a driving license. Never needed one.

It sounds adorable.  My town has one of those, it's probably 5 miles from my place.  Its where the French place with the crepes I've mentioned before is.

Okay, so Ive started watching Nailed It! the holiday edtion, and I have to say the episode was good, but one of the judges annoyed me because twice he said you can’t melt chocolate chips you have to use candy melts instead. I suppose he might be correct that you can’t melt them using a microwave - what they have on the show - but a double boiler pot on a stovetop (they don’t have this on the show) works really well and my mom and I have used that method for years when we make Chowmein Noodle cookies at Christmas. Oh well, I’ll get over this, some day...

School Assignment: Select a topic from only on this list of opposing viewpoints on the following database website.

Me looking at the website: Hmm, let me go with Same-Sex Marriage.

School Assignment: Research your topic for the primary opposing viewpoints only from this website (the same we got the topic from). Then write a three or more paragraph essay in APA formatting (don't need topic sentences or thesis statement). Write this essay validating each opposing viewpoint and in support of them. Only use sources that are reliable, credible, and free of bias.

Me looking at the website: You want me to use HuffPo, the failing New York Times, and fake news CNN as credible sources? We just went over in chapter 6 this week about bias in the media, and the book pointed out that CNN, MSNBC, and FOXNews are all skewed and bias. Also, 90% of all print media is biased as well.

Me in private message to the instructor (whose nice, friendly, and willing to help and answer questions): All my sources on the website are not credible, per the standards we are supposed to using based on chapter 5 and 6 this week. Can I use another source?

Instructor: I'm sorry, but the University says you have to use only this website and its databases. Try to use what you can, and see if there are any academic studies you can use.

Me beating my head on the desk, as I just hit the end of my topics database section, with nothing but biased sources that only support one side of the topic... I'll let you guess which side.

I don't know of any D/s in my circle of local friends. Though there is one guy I know that likes the whips and chains, but no sex.

I have quite a few friends who are into BDSM of one kind or another, but I don't think I know anyone in a 24/7 D/s relationship irl either. For most it's bedroom play, I guess. I know at least one professional Dominatrix, though.

A, my advice is not to beat your head against the wall over things like this, when it is outside of your control. I understand your frustration, but you are dealing with the syllabus and the curriculum of a college course. Getting worked up over things like finding credible sources will drain you, and it will drain your focus. Try not to stress too much over the smaller stuff - focus on the bigger prize. Remember, you're only 3 courses in.

Thanks, Mac, you're right. I'm going to take a breather, and then retackle this thing.

If I have to use the news, then I need to find the least bias one. Just trying to find one that supports the religious liberty side of the debate is going to be hard.
