I read somewhere that chips (aka French fries across the pond) actually originate from Belgium, although France naturally disputes that.

I actually agree with Belgium on this.   In WWII, the Belgian people spoke French, and I believe, their military uniforms may have been too similar in appearance to those worn by the French army. The American soldiers who arrived in Europe became confused, thinking they were still in France, and the name "French Fries" stuck. The proper term, however, is "Frites".

I could be wrong, I'm suspecting that it may have been the American soldiers who came over to Europe during WWI (not  WWII) who took the term French Fries back to the US...

In French, yes. But in UK English it is "potato chips", or simply "chips".  

As an aside, I read on Wikipedia that the United States supplies China with most of their French fries, while Canada supplies 22% of China's import of them.

Hi all, 

A few days ago already the sun and heat moved away in favor of mild temperatures and rain. Today thunderstorms are fighting with the sun to make an appearance. I managed a quick trip to the farmer market this morning during a sunny moment. Good thing I received an order of yarn to keep me busy

Broody is sexy.   My day is okay. Rescued two kittens out in the rain on my lawn in the wee hours of the morning. Don't know where the other two were. They were screaming their heads off, so I put them in a wooden box in the barn that I used for kittens last year. The mother must have moved them, because they were gone this morning, and they couldn't have gotten out by themselves.
