He does Thai and I do a mix of western foods. I do doctor up the western stuff with some Thai spices. Things like lemon grass or lime for lemon. Nothing too radical or "fusion" type foods. I do like to add the small chilli's to some traditional recipes like beef stew, beef stroganoff and beef bourgeon. My Thai guy does like the heat! I must admit that I have come to appreciate it also, but it took a few years to build up to Aod's level. 5

I saw one topic where parents were discussing what to feed their kids, since the little ones are always hungry after classes or a performance. Max is no different, and he just eats SO MUCH, always! We usually stop at the "Royal" burger joint after pickup from ballet class because it's nearby, and Max ends up eating so fast, I worry he might make himself sick. Then we go home, and several hours later, he STILL empties his plate at dinner! I'm almost terrified at the thought of him hitting puberty, which is only a couple of years away. I also feel a bit guilty, because Max ends up eating so many "heavy" meals, and of course I want him to be healthy. How do I find a balance between caloric needs and wholesome foods? Remember that while ballet is considered an art, dancers are athletes. Consider checking out dietary guidelines for young soccer or lacrosse players, even cross country runners. They tend to be use the same muscle groups in sustained activity. Also, Max will benefit from the balanced meals you serve at home so a "treat" like a burger or milk shake after class isn't terrible just try to avoid deep fried items. Especially since in addition to the calories he expends in class he also needs to fuel his growth. You're doing a good job Page. Most parents second guess themselves. Thanks, Dugh. 9 hours ago, dughlas said: Remember that while ballet is considered an art, dancers are athletes. I thought about that, too. For "second lunch" today, Max had mozzarella string cheese, a deviled egg (light on mayo), and a sandwich of chicken salad with grapes and walnuts on whole grain bread. When I presented the food to him, his face lit up like---well, like a kid who just found out Christmas came two weeks early. It never occurred to me that he might actually want to have healthier options available. I guess that's part of the learning curve as a parent. 6

Some important words… as kids we thought grown ups had it all sorted and then we become grown ups and realise everyone just scrambles along. And from the wise words of my nephew - you know taste buds, well they change all the time, Uncle Bucket, so you have to try new things and old things you didn’t like cause you might like them now (serious look on a very young face) OMG he will be 16 in a couple of weeks 6
