Max's science class does "virtual" dissection, using computer programs. It's more humane, and not so icky for any kids who may be squeamish. I didn't let anything in my classroom that was embalmed. The chemicals used are toxic, and students should never be exposed to them. I also only used things for dissection that could be bought in my local meat departments, such as chicken wings, soup bones, and chicken hearts. However, I found that the icky factor was fascinating to deal with. Some kids had no problem, and others that did either realized what they were eating was what their parents cooked, and they ate or decided to become vegans (at least temporarily). I never insisted they had to do the dissections if they were squeamish. They could even ask to be elsewhere when it happened. I had arrangements with the other teachers and librarian. 1 5

My brother had that phase too... he would go to japan every year putting a small suitcase for his clothes inside a much bigger one with rolls of freezer bags. When he came back his clothes were still in the small suitcase but the bigger one would be filled to the brim with boxes of Gundam models. His technic was to flatten the boxes and take apart all the little pieces in the plastic bags... then he'd spend month painting and assembling them. If Aod and I get to Japan, I'll remember this! The models are more expensive here because of the tariffs on foreign products. Japan and many European countries are not taxed as much, but things from the USA are almost twice the price, plus the cost of shipping. Thanks for the information, Clo! 7
