His father ignored him in favor of his younger brother, Maudjee-kawiss. Pukawiss eventually taught his tribe how to dance, based on the movements of the animals he had observed. Later, he gave up his home and became a permanent wanderer, travelling to share his knowledge with the other tribes.

The Pequot (a native American tribe in Connecticut) has the Green Corn Festival. When Dennis and I were 13, Dennis' parents took us to it. There was a boy dressed in his costume (buckskin) and his dance was beautiful. So was the boy, too.
