Site Moderator Popular Post drpaladin Posted December 20, 2018 Site Moderator Popular Post Posted December 20, 2018 There have been a plethora of Christmas movies made over the years. Some of them are good and have become instant classics and some of them are so bad you have to wonder what they were thinking when they were made. I love the old classic movies. There are four I try to watch every year. The Man Who Came to Dinner It's fortunate Monty Wooley was able to preserve his Broadway performance of the curmudgeonly bon vivant and wit, Sheridan Whiteside on film for future generations. It is his finest work. He is supported by a stellar cast, which includes Bette Davis, Jimmy Durante, Billie Burke, and Jane Withes. Miracle on 34th Street Edmund Gwenn is Kris Kringle, a man hired to be Macy's Santa Claus, who may or may not be the real Santa Claus. There is a wonderful supporting cast with Natalie Wood as a little girl who has been taught to be practical and not believe in childish fantasies. In my opinion, no list of Christmas movies can't be complete without Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Two versions make my list. A Christmas Carol (1938) Reginald Owen does a good turn as Scrooge in this one, but it's Terry Kilburn I always remember as Tiny Tim. To me he is the one and only Tiny Tim. 'God bless us every one." This film also gives us the Lockhart's as the Cratchit's, with their own daughter June playing one of the children. A Christmas Carol (1951) Alastair Sim is the best of all the Scrooge's. He is stern and miserly as the unrepentant Scrooge and full of joy and positively giddy as the reformed man. This is my must see Christmas movie list. What movies are on your list? 2 4
Headstall Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Those are my favorites too, Dr. P. I would add White Christmas to the list... it came out the year I was born. I like musicals... oh... Holiday Inn is another good one. As far as more recent movies, I liked one called The Family Stone. It got trashed by some critics, but I liked it. Will Ferrell's Elf makes me laugh. Jeez... there are so many.... 4
Headstall Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Thinking about old movies made me think of one in particular... it's not a Christmas movie, but it's a perfect one to watch during the holidays if you like older movies (1939). The movie is called The Little Princess and stars Shirley Temple. I recall watching it one night as a little gaffer, with my mother and siblings, and the Christmas tree was lit. It's a fond memory. 4
Site Moderator Reader1810 Posted December 21, 2018 Site Moderator Posted December 21, 2018 Miracle on 34th Street (the 1947 version) is my absolute favourite Christmas movie. 4

blake_logan Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Nothing like a Griswold Christmas, but last year I did a double feature with Home Alone & Home Alone 2. 5
Thorn Wilde Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Three Wishes for Cinderella. It's a Czech version of the classic fairytale, from 1973, and it's been on TV here in Norway every Christmas for decades. It really is very beautiful, and the music is gorgeous. Christmas isn't quite the same without it. 5

I liked that one too, but I'm always a hopeless sucker when it comes to Shirley Temple movies. "Oh my goodness." 2 1

D.K. Daniels Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Personal favorites: 1. Fluke - Fluke is about a dog finding its way home to his family. Can't have Christmas without a dog movie. 2. Love Actually - revolves around nine separate stories; all of which showcase the complexities of love. 3. Home Alone - need I say more, what more entertaining than a kid putting house buglers in the hospital. 4. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation - everything that can go wrong at Christmas will go wrong. 5. The Grinch 2000 - watching Jim Carrey parade around defying Christmas with wit and sarcasm is gold. 6. Jack Frost - and what would be Christmas without a few tears. 3 1
