what is a monte cristo and an apple dumpling? never had either  I've heard of the apple dumpling gang

Ah, so it is a pastry. Is an apple fritter the same thing basically? When I think dumpling, I think of the ones mom made of using baking power biscuit recipe and dropping into a beef stew before serving to puff up. Or, the asian kind that is usually full of pork, chicken, vegetable, etc. 

I am aging  as I can't go into a 5 Guys Burgers and Fries and eat a double anymore
