Trio of men arrested after gay hot tub threesome turns violent
Gene Splicer PHD replied to MarcW's topic in The Lounge
LOL three drunken gays in a hot tub. That's a hot mess right from the start One gets a little catty about making more than the other. Could just as easily been about who's wearing what kind of shirt. I bet this was the culmination of a long night of condescending put downs lubed up with a generous amount of booze. Just a couple of blowhards. If you know what I mean. -

'Alex From Target' and the Mess of Uncontrollable Fame
Gene Splicer PHD replied to methodwriter85's topic in The Lounge
After it went viral, some marketing company sleazebags jumped in and tried to take credit, saying Target had paid for all of it. Totally unfounded. I know some famous people. The extent they have to go to to mask their private lives, protect themselves and their families, and generally live in a prison of their own making is sometimes unreal. It's no wonder that kids like bieber and the other Disney brats go nuts when they reach a certain age. And it's no surprise that they can't handle the results, being young and inexperienced and sheltered. The good news for this kid is that he's a flash in the pan - it'll all be forgotten soon. -
'Alex From Target' and the Mess of Uncontrollable Fame
Gene Splicer PHD replied to methodwriter85's topic in The Lounge
Yeah, Matt. I personally think the whole thing is kind of gross. -
It's a gay novel if the characters and the plot revolve around the characters getting into gay relationships, or even hookups. So if the little twink with the big dick gets the football player (or the coach), with a big sister or otherwise untouchable female whose got the twink's best interest at heart (even if she's clumsy about it), then you've nailed it. Also, one of the pair needs to end up in the hospital so that the other one can prove their love.

'Alex From Target' and the Mess of Uncontrollable Fame
Gene Splicer PHD replied to methodwriter85's topic in The Lounge
And his girlfriend has been getting death threats....from other girls that want to be with Alex. Fame brings the crazy. Yeah, it's fun to look at, but I bet you wouldn't want to be in their shoes. -

I did, and we still get together occasionally for a booty call. But, we aren't well suited for anything more than an evening together once in a while, because he's freaking nuts and I am the most stable, reliable, trustworthy, gorgeous and wonderful person who's ever lived, and I don't have ANY issues. IT WAS ALL HIS FAULT

Well, what are you repressing? A desire to steal buses? Holding back when you want to say something rude? The need for one more potato chip? A giggle? Or are you talking about....sexuality or the act of sex? Those can be repressed too, but with more difficulty, but it can be done. There are gay and bi people in straight, monogamous relationships. They abstain from gay sex (and may repress the desire for it) because of their relationship with their spouse. There are religious people that abstain from sex for religious reasons. Repression takes many forms. Not all of them are bad. If you are repressing your sexuality (since I think that's what this is about), look at your reasons for doing that. Are they based in principles and morals, or based in fear? Anytime you repress something out of fear, consider the source of the fear. If you are repressing sexuality because you want to reject it, consider why you want to do that. I remember when I actively did not want to be gay. I repressed it, and did so successfully for quite a few years. It was unhealthy, and became nearly an obsession, because I came up with rules about how I could act in certain situations. I wasn't "allowed" to look at other guys. I wasn't "allowed" to flirt, or be flirted with. I actively avoided situations with other men, because I didn't want to create situations where those "rules" could even possibly come into play. I avoided gay people, because they were breaking the rules and I didn't want to be reminded that if they could break the rules, maybe I could too. It was pretty unhealthy, and stressful. So after some therapy, and some good old exposure to gay life, I accepted that it wasn't going away, and I figured at that point that I needed to come up with some new guidelines (not rules) for how I wanted to be gay. And eventually, came out and nothing really changed, although I lost friendships (with people that didn't deserve the relationship anyway). But it was a long time between accepting myself and telling anyone about it. Here's the thing: If you're as conflicted as you sound, please find someone to talk with about this - a therapist or counselor, a coming out support group. You do not have to figure all this out by yourself, alone. I think you should be talking to people who feel as you do, and see if there are maybe, possibly, some ways for you to find out that being okay with being bi IS okay. Let's pretend that you decide one day that you're just fine with being who you are, regardless of your sexuality. You discard the ideas in your head that make your sexuality "wrong". And you don't tell a soul. You keep the fact that you're okay with your sexuality to yourself. Not every revelation needs a publisher, right? Your sexuality is your business, and no one else's - whether that's bi or gay or straight or zoo-like. No one else needs to know unless you think they do. Because that's what it's about: becoming okay with being bi. You know what happens when you accept that part of yourself for what it is? Nothing. You won't develop a rainbow halo, or suddenly "look queer". So guess what happens? You'll be able to sleep at night. You'll be more honest with yourself. You'll be happier in your own skin. You'll see others clearly, without your fears and "rules" clouding your judgment. After that, if you think others need to be told that you're "different", you'll be able to see how they might react with a clear head, and decide if they need to know, or not. So go find some people to talk to. I promise, it's a lot better than trying to figure this out on your own. And it's not scary. It's scary to begin, and to ask for help, but so are a lot of things. You are a human being - top of the food chain, ruler of all you survey: You CAN look at these things and work through them. What holds you back is probably fear, and THAT is something you CAN repress.

So I think they oversimplified one piece of this too much... When I visit the GA site, this happens: My PC needs to know where to get www.gayauthors.org .first it checks to see if it has the IP address froma prior visit, and doesn't have it. ..then it asks my ISP if they have it. ...then it asks the ISP to go find it. ....the ISP goes and asks it's provider for it. This is called a 'root server'. .....root server tells the ISP to go look for the IP address where GA's domain name lives - not the site, just the name. ......GA's name server host tells my PC the IP address for the site. .......my PC asks GA's server to present the page THEN the packets start flowing to serve the page. Oh, and every time a packet is sent from one router to another, and there could be hundreds of them between here and the GA server, each packet is acknowledged by the sending and receiving routers to make sure it's still clean and okay to go to the next stop. If not, it's thrown away and a new one is re-sent from the host again. And then there's the chatter between routers that simply keep the routes open and/or build new routes when others fail, so that the packets don't get dropped because of a bad route. A week or so ago, there was an outage and the GA site was "down". It wasn't, but no one could get to it. The router protocol that does all the routing filled up with too many routes on several hundred thousand routers all at once because of a programming change. All those routers had to be rebooted.

Kids react to Typewriters- "Please tell me there's a copy and
Gene Splicer PHD replied to AquariusGuy's topic in The Lounge
I used an IBM Selectric for a few years in the Navy to type up radio messages to order supplies. It had some kind of OCR typeface that the radio set could scan to send the radio messages. It also had the interchangeable balls to switch typefaces. It had a ribbon that had whiteout, so you could actually backspace, lol. The problem with this was that it sometimes missed with the whiteout, so you'd have to start over or the radio guys would kick it back. When you typed, it sounded like TUNK TUNK TUNK instead of the normal "clack" you got with a manual typewriter. Anytime you backspaced it went KER-chunka and the whole desk shook lol. If you pulled out a piece of appear really fast it would WHEEEE as the roller spun. So my typing up a message sounded like TUNK TUNK TUNK TUNK TUNKTUNKTUNK...TUNK..TUNK"shit"...KER-chunka KER-chunka KER-chunka KER-chunka...TUNKTUNKTUNK...dammit KER-chunka KER-chunka WHEEE "Screw it I'm going to the bar" Also, backspacing consisted of hitting a backspace key until you got on top of the character you wanted to correct, holding down a button to lift the whiteout ribbon up where the black ribbon usually sat, and typing the character again to white it out. Then you'd back up again, and type the character you wanted. Didn't work for non-mono space typefaces at all. Horrible. -
I came out at 15 to my stepmother. She flatly refused to believe it, and forbade me to tell my dad (not like I was going to do that anyway). The issue "didn't exist" for the remainder of my time living with them. When I was 25 or so I came out to both of them and this time I meant it. My dad had suspected it - lack of girlfriends, etc. - and my stepmother felt terribly guilty because she'd denied it for so long. After a bit of awkwardness lasting about a month, my dad stopped thinking it was true (until I brought a boyfriend to Christmas a few years later) and my stepmom kept trying to hook me up with eligible bachelors, lol. Anyway it all came right in the end and wasn't the big deal I thought it would be.

If you were to rephrase this using the words "passive" and "aggressive" instead of "feminine" and "masculine" it would make sense to me, but it kinda doesn't make sense to me the way you've written it. I know plenty of masculine people - women and men - that are passive while being masculine in the way they act. I also know plenty of feminine people - again both women and men - who are aggressive while being feminine in their behavior. You're right, in that being "feminine" in a locker room isn't seen as "manly". But if a player is feminine in mannerisms, but can run the ball down a field while shoving other players out of the way, does it matter? Tough question, there. I know a guy, 6'4, probably 300 pounds. When I met him, he looked like Chewbacca because of the long hair and beard and the way he stands. Then he talked, and I thought I was talking to Beyoncé. Kind of disturbing, really. Very feminine mannerisms. But he's a good baseball player and a good football player, and yeah, I bet he catches a lot of shit on the locker room until you see him play. But you don't have to be anti-gay about it, unless you think that being gay makes you weak. Do you think you are weaker than a straight guy? I'm not. I think I'm stronger for it. I think that feminine men and masculine women are also stronger, because their lives are tougher in lots of little ways that mine is not (since I'm apparently masculine enough that unless I tell some one that I'm gay, they can't tell). I know some female cops - I'm a friend of the police chief in a neighboring city's and she is a straight white lady of some stature. She's really feminine in a lot of ways but she'd kick my ass six ways from Sunday if I were resisting arrest As a side question: I define "anti-feminine" as "against feminine behavior in men" and "anti-feminist" as being "against the feminist movement". Using those definitions, I think WL was talking about the former and not the latter. Do I have that right? The derail has confused me.

Yep. This article doesn't ...er... dig into the details here - different burial practices were in favor at different times. If there are 4 burials, for example, two of which are cremations and two which are inhumations (burial of the body with or without a coffin), it's often assumed that the cremations happened rather early (before the rise of Christianity) and the burials later (unless the burials aren't oriented east/west). Lots of factors and not much detail in the news article. Still, very interesting find.

Gene Splicer PHD replied to Comicality's topic in Comicality's Shack Clubhouse's Cafe
One of the issues with GA is that server storage is really limited. So, rather than uploading pics, put them on an image host and link to them from here. The one I use the most is imgur.com. It doesn't require you to log in and as far as I know the images aren't ever removed unless they're illegal or unless you remove them. So: upload pics to imgur.com - it's really quite easy, they have a great upload tool. After the images are up, copy the link and paste it into the image link in the editor. -

I have a problem with "problematic". It's over used and used in so many places with different definitions that the word "problematic" IS NOW PROBLEMATIC. Nuff said.
