Something tells me this temporary assignment will be a bit longer than anticipated.

Now that Gray knows the score, I gotta feeling this is not going to end too well for the cops and their buds. I’m just saying…..

I’d first noticed it when I’d started tutoring Chris in chemistry, revisiting the cosmic dance between electrons and protons that permits both cars and cats to exist. I had uncovered a wonder in him about the way things worked at this tiny, tiny level…. In trying to explain life we have reduced it to a series of chemical reactions, whether it be the burning of glucose in mitochondria to create energy, or the folding of proteins to make bile, or pollen, or blood. Zoom out to where we perceive things, the titanic mathematics of it all is silent. We have twisted our thoughts and feelings into all sorts of psychological origami about whether these things are a result of evolution, intelligent design, or creation ex nihilo, and for all we know, our little planet is the only place that holds all of this wonder in a void that is too staggeringly huge to conceive. I am utterly caught by the poetry in these lines. So clean, so beautiful, and so thoughtful.

Another great chapter but more important — feel better and heal quickly.

I never stop being blown away by the imagination and intelligence you bring to your writings and this chapter is just one more piece of proof.

A very smart and inviting start. I am looking forward to Chapter 2. One thing, please find an editor or proof reader. The content is spot on but the spelling, word choice and grammar are a bit disconcerting. Make you words worthy of your storytelling.

“I blew a few raspberries, trying to dislodge the stray piece of cat hair I felt on my tongue. “Dammit, Martini. Why do you have to shed?” I gave up trying to pull my sock up and pinched my tongue a few times until I snagged the errant hair. Gotcha, you little bastard!” It is openings like this that make you one of my favorite authors! Such attention to details no one else would ever have thought of. This is the kind of thing that makes your writings so alive!

It is incredible how you invent whole new worlds!

So….. I found and started reading this story as I was eating breakfast. Bad timing. Really really bad timing. Good start to this story, though. Reminds me of the year I worked as an EMT, way back when. Never knew what we would find at a scene.

What a world you are creating (or revealing???). And what a delight to be a part of it.

It seems that I already am caught up, just didn’t know what I was caught up to. Now I can read with even greater pleasure. 😜😜😜

Please attribute this to an aging mind and not even the barest hint that your wonderful stories are not memorable, but please tell me what this new story is a continuation of (yikes -- ending a sentence with a preposition! Sorry.) I want to go back and refresh my memory of the characters and the story line.

Funny how I much more easily am able to wrap my head around the fact that some of these characters are vampires then I can boys this age having that degree of business acumen. Well, this is fantasy after all…..

A lovingly crafted chapter.

I knew there had to be a dramatic twist in the offing but I did not expect it to come this way. Interested to see how you resolve this without resorting to Hallmark. (I have faith in you!)

This reads more like a good start to a longer story. Why not risk continuing it? You may be surprised where it takes you.

What a tender, lovingly written chapter. You did use a phrase that I never have heard before nor would I ever have imagined and I love when that happens: “I shuddered, thinking how much stomach acid I’d secreted unnecessarily.” You are a craftsman!

Unexpectedly, I cried through most of this. It brought back high school memories when a player from a rival high school was killed from a hit while playing football. I never knew him but after more than fifty years I still remember his name. Very effective chapter.
