    Chapter 12

Getting Zach Hayes to give up the high from football may be as impossible as getting Jeff Hayes to give up drugs was many years ago. Perhaps JP can explain this to Will. At least there a better chance of Zach surviving. Will's decision to hold Zach to his decision to break up may be a gamble, but I don't think Zach should get away with his stupid behavior, even if he was being fed meth. However, I doubt Will can explain this either - but JP and Stef may be able to. So forcing Zach to go to New York was the right thing to do.

    Chapter 1

Strangely enough I find the consequences a lot more believable than the explanation of the genetic discovery. But that's probably because I know more about natural science than social science. The idea that you can remove recessive genes in existing humans is rather farfetched though, but not that crazy scientists might want to do so. The progression of the increasingly awful consequences was brilliantly done. My first objection on the genetics is one small error: there is a linked pair of genes on each chromosome - I assume you mean 'genes on the relevant chromosome' since there are 23 chromosome pairs, and if each of them were involved, it would be a much more complex situation. My second objection is more complex and took me a while to work out, and I have to admit I'm not sure if I've done it correctly. But here goes: The assumption is that there are two gene pairs, and they can be either dominant (H) or recessive (h). So an individual can be HHHH, ie Heterosexual and only passing on 'straight' genes, or hhhh, ie Homosexual and only passing on 'gay' genes. Of the 14 possible combinations, by your premise, only 5 (36%) will give a het person, 1 (7%) a gay person, and the rest, 8 (57%), will be bi-sexual. In addition, gay kids must have at least one bi parent, since heterosexuals never have more than one recessive gene. If you had chosen to let those with two dominant and two recessive genes also be het and not bi (as would also be logical, since dominant genes usually prevent the recesssive ones from being expressed), then the ration would have been 9 het (64%), 4 bi (29%) and 1 gay (7%). Two het parents could get a gay child. Dad (HHhh) and Mom (hhHH) would have 56% chance of a het child, 38% chance of a bi child, and 6% chance of a gay child (out of 16 possible combinations). To me this seems a much more likely scenario. But my objections have no impact on the main concept of the story, they are simply me being slightly OCD. However, if you ever want to expand this into a novel, getting expert advice from a geneticist might be a good idea. At least, then you won't get this sort of grumbling.
  3. Sounds scary, but worth reading. I'll give it a try. If I get nightmares, I'll blame you.
  4. I've read this story a few times and I always end up growling a bit with frustration over the lack of a sequel. I hope you'll have time to come back to it one day. Tyrell seems quick-witted as his actions at the zoo showed, so I have no doubt he'll do well and be a valuable addition to the shelter.

    Prompt 438

Well, well, my Swedish friend, that was a brilliant debut. Your shy, cute vampire is the first I've met, as far as I can recall, that was a nice twist. A whole new way of cuddling Welcome to the Scandinavian Writers Club, I'm looking forward to more.

    Chapter 20

I bet this is the way Nate's empathy is supposed to work. Feeling the emotions and being able to untangle the knots when he is close to people and having it all slide away immediately after, leaving no trace. The regulators in his glamour fucked it up. Please, please let me be right about this. I can still remember Nate throwing a hissy fit over Guy wanting him to go to hospital and for good reason too. It was the moment I knew the wolf was too young, innocent and pushily protective to be any use as a boyfriend. I'm sure some plastic surgery can get rid of the burns. Tentacle sex. awesome... but embarrassing

    Chapter 19

Ohh, I like this Pyn tentacle mop. Very interesting. And my favorite quote is: No. Abso-fucking-lutely not. I was not ready to get into a big fish tank with a giant squid creature that wanted to cover me with goo and eat my pain. Nope. Not ready. I'd forgotten how much I like Takashi, loved him being all sarcastic about the healers, and banterring with Daffodil-Beard, and bargaining with the Pyn. Sushi, lol. Kitty

    Chapter 18

This is one of those times when I want to smack Mick for being an idiot. WHY didn't he tell Guy about Lester? It would have given the poor wolf something constructive to do while he waits for Takashi and Riley to come back. If they do... I have the feeling being presented at the Dark Court will fuck matters up on a totally different scale.
  9. I've read this several times, Gary, and I'm going to give up. There is no way I can express how this poem made me feel - or at least not differently from everyone else. All I can say is I'm grateful and proud to be your friend, Robin to your Batman.

    Chapter 17

So the whole purpose of Nate going through all of this pain (plotwise I mean) is that nothing else would have snapped his glamour. And I bet the power blast from it breaking is what knocked Lester out and cut the ropes. Perhaps even gave Nate a bit of strength to get out of there. Let's hope Guy answers the phone, since he won't know it's Mick.

    Chapter 16

I'm with Cannd here. Nate has the ability to wait for his chance, but unfortunately the water torture is probably only the beginning. But at least it made him numb, including his empathy, so he couldn't feel Lester's sick lust. I suppose you learn to count your 'blessings' in situations like that. And somehow it was sweet when Nate thought of Guy being warm. Sort of a ray of hope in the cold prison.

    Chapter 15

This chapter as well as the next one are so disturbing it's hard to review. But I shall focus on Nate's determination to escape - and hopefully revenge himself on Lester. Getting chewed to pieces by Guy is too good for that evil sadistic fucker.

    Chapter 55

I had to take notes as I read the chapter a second time so as not to forget to comment on all the important things happening. Starting off with the Radio Pride segment was brilliant, it reminded us that they were a large part of the Leopards being able to compete. I'm hoping that next week Jim and Paul will remember to thank the listeners for their support.I t was nice to witness the conversation between Liam and Clarissa. They finally are where they were meant to be: good friends who support each other. It was even better to see the talk Deon and Clarissa had, even if she does tease the poor guy a bit much. But I suspect it's good for him. And I suspect Clarissa is also doing it as a defense against falling too hard for Deon. Jackie and Julie are a great team, Peter will miss them when he's gone. I'm so glad all Ty's hard work and Jackie's help has paid off. You're now forgiven for injuring him. Of course I still worry along with his teammates when I see him hobbling on a sore knee, but if they win the final, Ty will happily pay the price of being unable to walk all Monday. Such a wonderful end to the scene with Jim and Tony at the airport warms my heart. Tony deserves it for being so supportive and patient, not only during Leopard Spots but in this story too. And it was sweet when Jim went all worried and protective in the car. Philip and Jessica are both clever and kindhearted. They made Mary focus on being the hostess rather than the presence of Jim and Tony. I was almost proud of the way Phil went over to Jim and apologized. Somehow I hadn't expected that, even though it was the obvious - and right- thing to do. The brat is certainly back in fine form with teasing Dad. Good thing he hasn't heard (about) Jim's praise of him on the radio. Yet... Lots of pre-game nerves understandably. Charlie is being the perfect teammate once more. I noticed he didn't say anything about Stacey meeting his parents. Hope it went well. Poor Neil, being friends with Ollie and Helena must be trying at times. I'm glad Liam managed to fix things so he can come to the dinner and have Neil stay over. Knowing you we'll be kept in the dark on the details, but I hope they have a good experience, no matter what happens. Kevin and Clarissa are being quite devious with Liam and his friends from school, aren't they? But since Kevin started it, Clarissa is simply playing along. Fun for us to watch. I can see Evelyn and Kevin having a nice time together, and since they are looking for the same thing, it's all good. I almost fell over laughing at the idea of Ollie being cheered by a bunch of gay guys. Serves him right for the comment to Neil about his shorts. And of all the straight guys on the team, Ollie's the one to take it as a compliment, particularly if Helena likes the idea. But his fans may be disappointed when she tells them why she wants a copy of the photo. And finally the start of the match approaches. I got goose pimples when reading about the crowd and how they made the players feel. I loved Ty's reaction, and Jim feeling awe at the whole thing including the rainbow banners was just perfect. I won't even moan about the cliff hanger, because I look forward to a whole chapter dedicated to the match. And hopefully another one describing the celebration afterwards.
  14. Naughty Vincent, I wonder if he knew what would happen. I hope he remembers the night once he meets Laurentius again, what's the fun of a wild whirl with a vampire if you can't recall it?
  15. but at least he was here to see it or perhaps not... since it's already at 22223

    Chapter 1

Wow, you plunged us straight into the drama with this one ! Hope the next chapter is more tranquil, and that they have a nice dinner. And I hope all the cousins tell the older generation what idiots they are.
  17. 2 more likes and Mark will be at 22222 rep points sorry about the post.
  18. A pair of Kings indeed ! King of Hearts and King of Love . We bow down and admire how well they play the game of fulfilling the needs of each other, whether spiritually or physically. How does it go? Gary is the King of writers. Was this review no 600 ?
  19. how could I? She might be the best of us at sussing out JAR's weird brain and misleading hints.
  20. Great review my Swedish friend - and I have to admit I rely on you and Defiance to work out the clues and hints, and let us know in the story discussion forum.
  21. That's a much nicer (and more correct) way of saying it.
  22. The art show could have ben scheduled far ahead, but Marc's invitation might have been timed.
  23. that's what I get for writing posts after waking up half-blind from a headache-induced slumber. It's so well deserved I'm not even going to edit my original post.
  24. Does anyone else hear an satified snicker from our estimated author ?
