    After the storm

Thanks for the review. This poem is the most difficult for me. I saw the guy mentioned about half an hour before he fell. It still haunts me.
  3. I have one season of Rumpole of the Bailey on VHS (and no way to watch it) and one season of Monarch of the Glen on DVD. I'm a fan of subtle British humor.
  4. My take on this is that the guy knew his career was on the down side and saw you as an up and coming star. He felt threatened and was worried about loosing his position. You'll run into this frequently. Best way to deal with this is learn how to ask their advice in such a way as to lead them to the conclusion you want. Easier said than done unfortunately.
  5. Happy Birthday Shadow Cat!
  6. When someone dies, there is always some unfinished work left. Usually it's something the deceased started. Today I found something I started for my brother when he first got sick 9 years ago. I was knitting a prayer shawl that should end up like this, only in denim blue heather: The pattern, http://debbiemacomber.com/knitters/alixs-prayer-shawl, was slightly beyond my skill level. I can make it, but can't recover from a dropped stitch without tearing out rows. About 5 years ago I was babysitting a boy who was fascinated by my knitting and would end up dropping stitches for me. Which mean restarting from scratch many times before I learned about "life lines", a piece of yarn that is run through the stitches on the needle every so many rows to prevent having to start over. I put my knitting away when the boy began pulling out the life lines. So I don't know what to do. I don't have a lot invested in yarn, only 6 skeins if I remember right, but the specialty needles I bought were expensive (48 inch size 13 circular needles). I hate having an unfinished project around, but also know that if I were to try to finish it I would be constantly reminded that my brother is dead.
  7. I've been researching US immigration laws and found out you have to be able to speak English to become naturalized.
  8. Happy Birthday - Enjoy!
  9. There are some that are context sensitive, not region sensitive: ride/riding ride can mean your vehicle or motorcycle ride can mean traveling as a passenger in a car/truck, usually without destination in mind, such as a country drive, I believe this is more my father's generation, but I grew up hearing it ride can also mean taking your motorcycle, bicycle or horse out riding can refer to using a motorcycle, bicycle or a horse also bike, as this one causes me a lot of grief, it refers to both human powered 2 wheel vehicles or motorcycles
  10. I'd send you a mutant midget monkey, but the post office lost the last two I mailed.

    Bts Supplies

The tissue/sanitizer thing is self-defense. Parents will give a child who has flu, cold or strep symptoms tylenol or motrin and send the a sick child to school or daycare. So their precious child infects other children, and eventually the teacher gets sick too. When I worked in daycare there were supplies the director wouldn't buy, or would buy and give to the wrong class, or take so long to get the supplues it was useless. I bought a lot of things myself.
  12. soft drinks - they are called cokes, soda or pop in various areas. my husband calls them sodie waters, but I think he's making a joke. Add ice cream and it's usually called a float, except in a small area in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, then it's a soda

    Bts Supplies

Unfortunately some parents can't afford or don't care/know to provide tissues and hand sanitizer. Also many kids aren't taught good hygiene at home. Having had strep go through the family 6 times in the first 4 months of kindergarten, I don't mind providing them. As for the the district providing these supplies, most of the things requested are not approved supplies. Also when parents purchase supplies, taxes are lower.
  14. Along the lines of Hitchcock, this is a psychological horror story. Bill creates fear not with a magical monster, or extreme gore/violence but by exposing and magnifying human short comings. An all too realistic scenario that has happened before, and should be guarded against. Thanks Bill for this look at where things could go wrong.

    Bts Supplies

School supplies here include personal supplies and classroom supplies. Classroom supplies, at the high school level, are things the teacher used to buy for use by the whole class: hand sanitizer, tissues, white board markers. Even in high school my son does cut and paste activities. Except for when it's for a journal, something I question the value of anyways, I don't know if cut and paste is useful for older students.
  16. Happy Birthday JoAnn
  17. I'm not excusing what he did, but he was also a child when he molested the other children. I dislike how the Duggar parents handled this too. As for the dating account, sounds like he's as much a hypocrite as his parents.
  18. I grew up with a mentally ill family member. Things have definitely improved since the 70's, not just treatment but societies attitude. Depression and other mental illnesses are no longer considered as contagious as the common cold. However we have a very long way to go. As others have said, anything we don't talk about can remain hidden or just misunderstood. Kudos on speaking out!
  19. It doesn't leave much to the imagination does it?
  20. I forgot one: I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.
  21. Happy Birthday Bill
  22. My favorites quotes, although I don't know the sources: If there be any good that I may do, let me do it now, for I may not pass this way again. (Or any of the versions of this) Do not walk behind me, I may not lead. Do not walk in front of me, I may not follow. Rather, walk beside me and be my friend. and last, but not least: Where are they? Which way did they go? How many of them were there? I must find them! I AM THEIR LEADER.
  23. *hugs*
  24. Happy Birthday
