I will face the door and try to be as close to it as possible so I can be one of the first off it. I don't mind talking to people on elevators and will usually at least smile and say 'hi'. If I was stuck in that situation the girls were in, I definitely would have panicked!

I think this was the perfect mix of northie and Carlos! I loved the twists and turns of the conversation and the challenge to assumptions. Writing dialogue only is not easy, yet this flowed smoothly with a clear sense of place and of the characters. Using the elevator as the setting was smart, although my claustrophobia is now triggered Getting stuck in an elevator is one of my worst nightmares, although I imagine being stuck with Carlos would take my mind off it pretty quickly! I think Carlos would have enjoyed this. Thank you for participating!

A beautiful tribute to true friendship I remember you telling me about the day with Carlos, and I was so disappointed he couldn't join us the night before for burgers and cupcakes and mojitos. I imagine him and Wayne exchanging prompts and laughing together. Thank you for sharing this with us. I know it wasn't easy, but it's a true testament to the power of friendship and the force of nature that was Carlos.

Our first writing event of the New Year is fast approaching! The deadline to submit tributes to Carlos is December 27th at 12:00 pm EST. Anyone is welcome to submit a tribute. The holidays aren't always the picture of perfection depicted in Hallmark movies or on holiday cards. In fact, it's pretty safe to say that the opposite tends to be more true to reality for most people. We all have that relative with opposite views who loves to start in at the dinner table, or a busybody who's all up in everyone's business and then proceeds to pass judgment on it. Then there's making sure the food is perfect, the table is set, and the house is clean. Planning for the holidays is a process, that's for sure! There's also people for whom the holidays are a tortuous affair. Maybe they lost a loved one, or have past trauma associated with this season. For them, the holiday blues are something to be endured until they can breathe a sigh of relief in the new year. So for today's prompts, we are embracing the less glamourous side of the holiday season. PT Prompt #187: Potluck gone wrong: You've been invited to a potluck and are famous for your delicious casseroles. People are lining up just to try your food. Unfortunately, the line dissipates pretty quickly once everyone sees the expression on the faces of people trying your food. You rush over to see what the problem is, and taste the dish, then promptly spit it out. What went wrong? PT Prompt #188: The year without a holiday: It's post-pandemic and you're finally able to celebrate with family again! You have four days off of work, ingredients for your favorite side dish in the fridge, and everyone's presents ready to go.
