    Defective Heart

A happy/sad chapter: Brad finally speaks honestly even with his humor present. Lyn does soften and really listens. Good chapter!
  2. There are pockets of this type of discrimination still present everywhere, unfortunately. We believe in the Constitution, they will say, but as it applies to White folk - no one else! We're seeing that at a national level, unfortunately, at this time in the U.S.
  3. Such powerful writing! I felt the emotions of both in the words spoken and actions described. Liam's fear is his prison. It also is the key to moving forward -facing that fear and breaking loose of its bonds!
  4. Might Graham know what the artifact really is or might actually be harboring it? He is definitely dodgy. He and Daphne are truly "rich" boors!. I do hope the detective get more active in their pursuit of Thomas Englert and possibly find the link to Graham!
  5. Rory may well be pansexual, if I am using that term correctly: he may love a person regardless of the gender. Hopefully, we'll find out! Robbie is his own harshest critic in this chapter. Yes, he took a lifesaving course, but working on dummies and a real life situation is markedly different. He did a good job and helped save Mr. Lube's life! Don is simply and disgustingly Don! Keep up the postings, @Dodger.
  6. A wonderful "break" in the facade that Alexander has been keeping. Knowing what we do know about his situation and requirements from his parents, it is good that this is being done, in essence, quietly.
  7. I'm still amazed at how mature this group of friends is, Michael and Stephen especially. It is heartwarming to see such an accepting and supporting group of people, and that extends to the parents! Of course, the closed-minded group will always be present, supported by so-called religious beliefs.
  8. First off, when there is a basis in friendship, a relationship can grow and be strong. Liam has been in a self-imposed emotional prison for far too long and it is painful to break through it. He has also realized that he isn't replacing Kevin but rather creating a new space for Adrian. Excellent writing!
  9. What a swing of emotions: Talking about expectations in relationships (both Charlie and Tom must have had solid parental relationships) but realizing their lives were different from their parents. Then, to top off these reflections, enter Tom Englert. I hope the detectives are close enough to take care of him! Enjoyable reading for sure!
  10. Darren is off to a good start. I'm worried that he might have a crash when the grief of the loss of his parents and starting a whole new life hits. I hope not, but could happen!
  11. I agree with @drsawzall: while I hold no judgment against others who indulge in tattoos and piercings, I cannot bring myself to do either. I've seen true pieces of art done in tattoos and people who look like walking paint splatters and dart boards! Ok...maybe I am being judgmental! Nonetheless, that said, I do truly respect the rights of others to treat their bodies as they wish. This vacation is proving quite interesting!
  12. It sounds as though Liam is starting to open up/thaw a bit. This may well be the beginning of allowing himself to love once again!
  13. They are both doing a relationship properly this time: taking time to get to know each other and build a friendship that is comfortable, respectful, and a place to grow comfortably. Sex, then, is more than just a physical activity. Well done!
  14. And here I think I am the old stick in the mud enjoying "single" life - Liam has me beat by miles! Of course, the difference is, he has Adrian trying to crack his self-imposed walls. I hope Adrian can do it soon!
  15. And yet, we know why this happened. Years later, and another major confrontation has finally laid bare what really was meant in Brad's room. The question remains: If Alexander did not tell Brad about Lyn's mother, how did he find out? How did he find out about the "scholarship" Lyn had?

    Chapter 21

A very warm, supportive and loving chapter which portends wonderful things moving forward. The "Adam" scene has brought acceptance and the ability to live their lives with no guilt or regrets.

    Chapter 32 - End

Great story...I can add no more than what has been said so articulately before! I do vote for another volume following the crew through their senior year.
  18. All I can say to @Cane23's analysis is "WOW!" Very well done. The saying about letting love go and if it comes back to you, then it is real plays here: Will Lyn come back to Alexander? Friendship - true friendship - is a solid basis on which to build a relationship. Bella and Brad do have a chance at that if they choose it. Bella's assessment of Luke and his behavior comes from her own experience. The next chapter will be most welcome!
  19. Great advice from Mark. Liam is afraid to step out of his self-imposed cocoon because he will have to face the grief, the uncertainty, the opening of emotions long closed off. And yet, in deepest recesses coming to the fore, the cocoon is starting to crack!
  20. And so, part 1 ends with us readers eagerly awaiting volume 2. Ximo is telling the story but we don't know what has become of Gerardo yet. I love that historical actualities and fiction have merged so well that we get an accurate description of one man's personal experience with what living in that era was like while enjoying the story itself. Great job, @Gary L.
  21. I'm wondering if there were prying eyes watching Ximo and Gerardo when they were out and about. Intrigue which will hopefully be addressed in Volume 2. Well done, @Gary L. I have enjoyed part 1.
  22. It would be even better if the two detectives might well be present when Thomas Englert shows up! As for the other Tom - I am wondering if he might well be ill based on the description of his physical look.
  23. Ah, the more things change, the more they stay the same!

    Chapter 46

What continues to amaze me is that with all their wealth, the children are raised to be very polite, appreciative and adventurous, especially with food! This was a very warm chapter focusing on the love of all the adults for this wonderful family!
  25. Absolutely powerful writing that will challenge the reader to wonder "could this really happen or has it already been done?" Has any government, including our own, genetically engineer a human intel agent? And what would life be like for this agent? This story certainly addresses that question.
