    Jubal reencountered his outlaws much sooner than I expected. I do think the one who got away will be like a bad penny and show up again. Lucas is sending all kinds of signals his inclinations are aligned with Jubal's. It's more a matter of when things heat up than if.

    You have no idea how ready I was for this one. Jubal has had more than his share of bad luck in double quick order. I hope this chance meeting is the turn to the good he needs. I do have a feeling seeing the one guy's face means he's to run across him again with the odds more on his side. I do wonder why they left him his horse and gun.

    This is the way it's supposed to work in theory, but looking at the numbers, it doesn't work so well in practice. In practice, you can commit just about every crime short of murder and go unpunished.

    New Mexico is rife with car theft. Many of them go across the border, but thrill and joy riders are a big problem too. The simplest solution is a hidden switch which cuts power to the fuel pump. If it won't start, you can't steal it.

    Hard ciders were popular in the early American colonies because they were cheap and easy to make. You could easily raise the alcohol content even more in the winter by letting it freeze and separating the higher alcohol content liquid from the ice, creating Applejack. The downside of this process is it leaves byproducts like methanol and fusel oils removed by heat distillation. This results in enormous hangovers for those who overindulge; think of the worst hangover you ever had and multiply by three. Colonists coined a phrase for this condition, the apple palsy.

    It's been so long since the last chapter, but there were enough references to past events to bring it into focus. It appears they all escaped just in time to evade a bloody coup.
