  1. From a four year old grandson: "I'm sorry..." Most recently it was a table lamp he broke when the pillow he threw missed his brother.
  2. I agree with you on Circumnavigation. It is my favorite from C James for its strong characters and nonstop action. It is also the world's second longest novel published in English: 1,082,090 words. It trails Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust (1,267,069 words) and is well ahead of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace (587,287 words). I'm sure C J is not resting on his laurels. Something great is coming.
  3. Thanks, everyone. We had a great day.
  4. 99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name.
  5. There must be thousands of lawyers in the south who are quite pleased with the way this is going. Think of all the lawsuits they can file in behalf of legally married LGBT couples who find the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality leaves them subject to all sorts of discrimination. And then there are thousands of attorneys who can defend the people and businesses who discriminate. Who are the real winners?
  6. Happy Birthday, Jimbo!
  7. We were having a relatively dignified discussion about a verb, Zombie.
  8. "Snuck" grates on my nerves. That's because it is not correct. I know you find it in some modern dictionaries because it is used by people who slept through English class. Another misused word is "hung" rather than "hanged". It's a bit more challenging because, unlike "snuck", "hung" is not always wrong. Both "hung" and "hanged" are the past tense of "hang". People (murderers, suicides) are hanged; everything else is hung. Examples: The farmer hung the tobacco up to dry. The sheriff hanged the condemned man. The despondent man hanged himself.
  9. I think the British version of English has changed much more since the 17th century than has the North American version. There are a lot of words we use in the US that are more like the earlier British usage than the current British usage. Early Scots/Irish immigrants settled first in Pennsylvania, then migrated south and west. Due to several centuries of American isolation, we missed the linguistic changes in the mother country.
  10. I am not a that, LOL. Everyone repeat after me, "I am not a that".

    Shoot Me Now

My response to your previous blog entry, which only you and I saw, wasn't intended to trample you. Hopefully, it showed that I am neither faint-hearted nor vindictive. As for the US trailing behind other countries in advancing certain social changes, it's not reasonable for us to always be the leader. We will eventually get there. You are forgiven.
  12. People whose feelings are easily hurt should never discuss politics. In the Soapbox, too many people were discussing their feelings rather than politics.
  13. To our Canadian friends... A Mari usque ad Mare, eh?
  14. Gay marriages have begun in Nashville. Quote Story: http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2015/06/26/supreme-court-gay-marriage/29263767/
  15. Sorry, folks, but I'm having a great day! If I where having a bad day, and being American, I would have to whine rather than whinge. Whine is part of the continuum, complain/whine/bitch. It's interesting to note that, in that order, they are increasingly more significant and decreasingly effective.

    Vicious

I have not seen Vicious, of course, being an isolated American. I certainly do know who McKellan and Jacobi are. I can't imagine them being poor ambassadors for the gay community. The big danger in political correctness is that it could kill the gay movement before acceptance is more widespread. The PC Nazis need to be drowned out by a chorus of affirmation for all things gay. Infighting over rules dictated by a few is a damning distraction. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh, I'm trying to ensure that I understand this new definition of "dope" to which you have exposed me. It's not stupid or illicit drugs. It's something good, right?
  17. I missed it by one day, but I still wish Old Bob a Happy Birthday! Number 86 it is. We miss you and hope you are doing well.
  18. Talking about it is the job of the psychiatrist. No one else - not even the best of friends or the best of conversationalists - can do any good discussing trauma with the victim. Thanks for the discussion, Jim.
  19. Per Wikipedia, Jenner is the father of three sons, three daughters, and four stepchildren.
  20. Ho hum. Can't help but wonder if this isn't just another episode in the Kardashian saga.
  21. Not so fast. What people say is real life is only what people say in real life.
  22. I would say you are right. Use it is.
  23. You should be pleased that there are so many good medical tests available. And so many treatments, too. And medical science finds new treatments all the time. I am benefiting from treatments today that didn't exist when I was first diagnosed with cancer. Best wishes.
