  5. For those who are wondering, here's a Mandelbrot fractal: OK, AJ, your turn.
  6. I know some of you will recognize this problem. At last there's an explanation. Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was? Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses. Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next. Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale. It's not aging, it's the door! Whew! Thank goodness for studies like these!
  7. Probably some time this month...this month being December 2012 (inside joke which you will soon understand.)

  10. The boat in the photo looks familiar to me, Red. I'm wondering if I saw it in Dundee, Scotland, or Broughty Ferry perhaps.
  11. Des Arc, AR/USA The White River at Des Arc, Arkansas Personal story: In 1963, I was in the Army and returning to Fort Sill, OK from Memphis, TN. I-40 was not complete in those days and the detour between it and US 64 ran through Des Arc. The bridge in the photo is a modern replacement for the one I crossed. The roadway of the old bridge consisted of timbers laid across cables. Traffic signals controlled the flow of vehicles across the bridge's single lane. As I drove across, the roadway bounced up up and down all the more vigorously as I was following a school bus. Next trip home, I selected my own detour.

    Going HOME!

    Yay! Congratulations, Robert.
  13. What's wrong with this picture? What safety rules are being violated?
  14. Sorry about that. I should add that I actually get enough sleep...about six hours a night. On rare occasion, I take a 20 or 30 minute afternoon nap.
  15. Not a lot. It's an age thing. I have sleeping pills, but if I take one, I can't stay awake in the daytime. Congratulations on the correct response. I need to give misleading clues in the future. Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem Don't be surprised when the global elite confiscate money from your bank account one day. They are already very clearly telling you that they are going to do it. Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem is the president of the Eurogroup - an organization of eurozone finance ministers that was instrumental in putting together the Cyprus "deal" - and he has said publicly that what has just happened in Cyprus will serve as a blueprint for future bank bailouts. What that means is that when the chips are down, they are going to come after YOUR money. The blog Zombie mentioned: https://www.gayauthors.org/forums/blog/201/entry-13361-the-cyprus-syndrome/ Your turn, Zombie. Amaze us with your challenge.
  16. Based on the justices' questions - not always a sure indication of the eventual decision - it appears likely that they will not rule in favor of either side in the California Prop 8 case, but will allow the California state courts' decisions to stand. That means that Prop 8 is overturned and gay marriage will once again be legal in California. It also means that the Court avoids a decision which would have an effect on any other states. Several of the justices questioned whether they should have accepted the case to start with.

  19. LOL. You are an honest man indeed. It is not Oprah. The picture does not date from the 19th century as most of our challenges have. The man pictured is our contemporary and a current news maker.
