  1. Thank you for inspiring me to write the pantoum. It was fun and challenging to try. The interlocking lines really appeal to me. I know that I don’t know enough about the Doha; perhaps there will be feedback from others on GA with greater knowledge than mine. But it was a very different sort of poem to write. I can’t climb up on my grandmother’s barn anymore. But I still recall the solitude and warmth of the ascent. And the stars from her back yard were always clearer there than anywhere. Thank you for reading these and commenting on them.
  2. April 22 Jacob saw the angels climbing, weary of their earthly griming, up to heav’n for terce and priming, bright celestial bells a-chiming. Down the rungs still more descended, wings dry cleaned and garments mended, rest and relaxation ended, off to creatures whom they tended. In his restless journeyed dreaming he espied the seraphs streaming, lit by cosmic radiance beaming on the mass of mortals teeming. Thus I wake

    The Hostage

Quite literally a cliff hanger! Or at least a window-frame hanger. What an exit, and what a situation. It could end as tragedy or farce. Fun to read!

    Chapter 14

I liked this solid ending. Not saccharine. The twins remain brothers and can go forward in their lives.
  5. This chapter is Karmic in tons of ways. I enjoyed it very much. It looks as if Brady is in for a long period of growth.

    Timing

That’s a beautiful poem, despite the melancholy and pain which radiates from its lines. But I, too, wonder.

    Vigil

My thoughts have been with you, as they will be. This is gut wrenching.
  8. You find treasures in your gleanings, finding poetry everywhere. I admire this. How well you work with the image and subject of the theme.
  9. Drake said it out loud to himself and to Callie. Now he needs to say it to Jimmy - and then he’s got to get him to believe it. That will be the best part..,
  10. Thank you so very much for your responses to these. Self doubt is indeed a familiar inhabitant of my soul. Your words of encouragement are precious, and I am grateful. And April 15 with its recipe box will stay with me always.
  11. This story felt more like a personal experience to me, as if a friend were writing to me, or telling me about his life over wine or coffee. I think you describe it perfectly, Puppi. Like you, I remain attached to the two characters. Thank you for this stellar review.

    Third Week

You are a marvel, tim. These are quite wonderful. The skeltonic verse made me grin, and April 16 and 17 made me tremble. The pantoum is remarkable and seamless. This was a fantastic week.
  13. Thank you. I am very grateful you took time to read these and respond to them. Number 19 is a recurring thought for me. I am glad you can relate.
  14. April 17 gave voice to fears that I sometimes make the mistake of listening to. Thank you for your voice, that silences the other. The redwing in the snow is an arresting contrast in both sight and sound. Whatever can they find to eat? And you accurately spotted what I felt in April 16 as I wrote it. You are so very kind in your reflections on this week’s offerings. Thank you for reading these and for your responses.
  15. I am glad these appealed to you in different ways, and that they evoked so many images in your mind’s eye. April 19 welled up from some of the bleakness I’ve felt in this endless winter. Your kind words are a ray of warm sun. Thank you.
  16. We connect to many things similarly. You saw both my daydream - a GA poetry reading - and nightmare. I’m glad this week’s poems spoke to you! Thank you for reading!

    The Pick-Up

This is an instant hit with me. I have had to read it over and over, my eyes devouring each line again and again. Your hard work paid off handsomely - as handsome as your man. Oh the bewitching power of beauty; you capture the story of it so incredibly well. And the form is wonderfully suited to it. I'm coming back to this one, often.
  18. April 15 That grey box contains a thousand feasts, and dishes for acres of potluck; those old recipe cards trace long decades of life, bold cursive turned to spidery script, gumbo and brownies mixed together. April 16 I kissed a boy, and liked it fine, and afterwards did I design by guile and machinations great to win his heart and make him mine. But in my state of mind elate I counted not on unkind fate, for
  19. Such sweet torture...I can wait. If I have to.
  20. Wow - what a whipsaw - and the discussion about lawyering up goes unresolved, as does some internal bleeding. And you’re going to make me wait? Great chapter.
  21. These were fresh and new. Of course, I’m a sucker for cinquains, so thank you for those. I also enjoyed 15 very much. You connect to your theme adroitly. Wonderful additions to your collection.
  22. Definitely not the seat I had on my Schwinn...
  23. I am so glad Metaphors connected with you. It was such fun to write. You are very kind to read these and to comment on them.
  24. I have this recording too! How wonderful Haydn’s Symphonies are...
  25. Brady and his ilk often fade - flabbily like Paul, or into strings like Brady. This high school class is like every other one - lots of secret stories. Funny how they stop being secret after a couple of decades. Very interesting. Hope there will be more.
