Thank you all! I'm still like-less, unfortunately.
-
Thank you both. You're very sweet. As I said earlier, I'm currently like-less. *sigh*
-
Thank you, again! I'm out of likes currently - but I'll be back in due course. @ Val As for the shabby, pale, imitation shiny on offer - thanks, but no thanks.
-
Thanks very much! It was a work day but apart from that, it was fine. @ Adi I have one very late, bedraggled rose left. @ tim I may be red pretty soon ...

A very moving and engaging story. There is something fascinating about reading one side of a correspondence, especially one from the past. The family connections and growing realisation of an extra dimension between the two airmen makes the fascination so personal. The emotional content is heartfelt, engrossing and to me, enlightening. Thank you!

book covers Judge Me By My Cover
northie commented on Sasha Distan's blog entry in Wolf At The Keyboard
I loved reading your tirade ... The book trade is as much into selling stock as any other product and if crass (and cheap) stereotyping works, why change it. Well, we know why ... but most publishers don't seem to agree with us. Titles of books as well ... *sigh* I'm very glad that GA doesn't rely on cover art. I'm with Drew that the description is what draws me in (or not).- 18 comments

Wow! Your first anthology story and it was great. The hopes and fears of both the leads were vivid and real and made me care. An excellent read and I hope we read much morei n the future.

Prompts Second Chance Prompts #502 & #507
northie commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Writing World
I've written a response to Prompt 517 which didn't seem to have any takers or links attached. No link from me either yet, but once I take the plunge it'll be one of the first things I post as I'm quite pleased with it.- 7 comments

I'm always in awe of those people who manage to do the most emotionally draining jobs like being a coroner - being a voice for the deceased, demanding answers if necessary (in the Engish system) and giving knowledge and perhaps comfort to those left behind. You capture all of this wonderfully and in so few words. 'Oh heart, stand strong' indeed for anyone involved in such distressing work.

The twist that wasn't a twist - it showed wonderfully how your mental bearings can be screwed up after something as upsetting as a break-in. The dream - that really made my stomach lurch. Very well written and eminently readable

It's fine to feel somewhat rootless, skimming on the surface of life, partying and so on, when you know you have a multitude of anchors to fall back on. Our anti-hero has had pretty much every anchor removed. He's drifting, abandoned, with only one punctured lifejacket which may or may not help him reach dry land. The way this story is written greatly adds to the sense of menace - as bare and bleak as his existence now is. Great stuff!

We missed you! I have a friend with type 1 diabetes and she has to be so observant and self-aware.

I'm mildly embarrassed that I hadn't even liked this, never mind reviewed it despite reading it for the first time several months ago. I've just read it again and enjoyed it more than last time, I think. I love the way you managed to include the prompt at the beginning and the end of the chapter - show off! The agony and ecstasy of social situations can be such an ordeal with your internal voice going on and on. Wonderfully captured.

I'm with Reader - the title made me grin. I hope everything goes well, tim. Sounds as though you'll do much better without your gall bladder than with it.

2016 Fall Anthology: Blindsided / The Forgotten * Double Check *
northie commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Gay Authors News
This is going to mean some serious reading. As I've only got one pair of eyes, who's going to have the honour of being read first? Now there's a question ...- 11 comments

Horror is not a fiction category found much on GA, and this is definitely horror, even if virtually all of it is the result of someone's imagination. Effective, chilling and the sharp turn the story took towards the end was a relief to this reader.

Our anti-hero wants to 'live life as a proud gay man, whatever the hell that meant'... He knows the phrase but has no concept of what being proud and gay should mean. To my mind, it means the complete antithesis of his behaviour. We get his back story but it doesn't really change my view of him - yes, he's effectively homeless and pretty much without money but my response is that he's brought much of it upon himself. Not that I approve in anyway of what's been done to him, but still ...

Based on recent events, presumably? It made me smile and laugh and really brightened up my Monday morning. Thanks!

AC, it's not continuous - it's made up of about 14 pieces. None should be more than 5 minutes in length? I wouldn't dream of expecting anybody to sit through a solid hour of viols if they;re not used to it.

I'm currently listening to Handel's Theodora - wonderful salve after a day's work. Here's a sample - a gorgeous duet To thee, thou glorious son https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eXi0HuZiGc

@ Aditus I have a soft spot for Carmina burana although I'm not at all keen on its composer as a person. I also quite enjoy his second work of the trilogy, Catulli carmina - rather more of an acquired taste but quirky and interesting. This is the first part.

I'm glad I wasn't eating anything when I read this - you convey the stench, mess and general squalor far too well ... Our anti-hero has at least some self-realisation, even some insight into his previous behaviour. Will it come to anything?

A for your most recent sadness and another for the memories it has brought back to haunt you.

Site Tip Re-Feature: Cia's Torturing Me
northie commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Writing World
I'm considering taking the decision to become an author and I can feel this blog reaching out a finger and pointing it straight at me. A question: my 'reputation' is far beyond what is needed to avoid automatic moderation - does this mean that although I'd be a first time author, my story wouldn't be moderated?
