You found this story by way of Awesome Dude? I never posted it on Awesome Dude. So are you sure? It's been in process forever, I've never had it listed as complete. Thanks for looking me up though and liking the story.

It is ALSO the Beta reader's job to turn down projects that they are not comfortable with or turning down a project that is outside of their expertise. You are not doing the author any justice by taking on a project that you know little about or have no ambition or enjoyment for. Authors should be building a relationship with their beta readers, learn what they are good at, what genres they like, etc. If they do not wish to read something because they feel that it is 'beneath' them or they 'cannot respect the creativity of it,' then they definitely need to step aside and let someone else do it. But then again if the author is fine with them reading something they don't enjoy reading, that's that. I would never ask a beta reader to read something that they don't want to read. That is why I do not have Steve editing my Fanfiction, because I feel that he'd not enjoy it. Beta readers and editors shouldn't be like, "well I'm working with so and so, because they are so and so," they should work with them because the relationship is strong.. and that means only taking on stories that is within their skill set and turning down the ones that aren't and authors should respect that as well. To do so, to me, just feels arrogant. "I don't like this story, I don't like this genre, I do not respect this genre, but I'm still skilled enough to take it on.." But anyway, back on topic: It's fine not to like Fanfictions, a lot of people don't. I don't necessarily read them, but to express the attitude that your fiction is better JUST BECAUSE you deem it 'more' original, is a very snobby and arrogant stance to take. In a forum that has new, experienced, original, and fanfiction writers alike, it is a detrimental thing to do... to put anyone off of writing when they want to write is in bad taste.

I actually think FanFiction writing could be a way for writers to express themselves and practice their writing. I wouldn't put it down if authors want to dabble in it or say, "I only read it, because I'm a beta reader for so and so author." That tone makes it seem like you are STUCK doing something that you don't at all enjoy. I'm sure that author could find better betas for their fanfiction so you wouldn't have to 'lower' yourself and 'waste' your time reading it. It's not plagiarism if they at least go out of their way to make some of the main aspects of the story their own. Those that say they would rather read original creative efforts are also sorely mistaken, good Fanfictions are distinctly original. Not a whole lot of topics, genres, or story-lines are original, just change the names and the setting, and the story still fits into the same mold as thousands of other stories already out there. So I don't feel like it is trespassing onto established ground by doing fanfiction, it's just in a world more structured than most other stories from the onset of writing it. So, I don't have a problem with fanfictions or the writing of it and I definitely would like for everyone to lose the attitude that it shouldn't be done.. or that it isn't "creative" enough.. or that it is a form of "generally accepted" plagiarism.

If I remember correctly, her character was never really that 'visual' of an enemy until the middle-later parts of the second book. At most she was just sort of gawked at... so they are likely setting up her character for the sequel, but they don't really want to spring her onto people either.. a good villain that people would respect and watch probably needs to be seen a bit more in the first movie, since it is a Trilogy. For some reason I remember that Eric and that other initiate more than her for the first book... and those are just minor characters compared to what the woman does later...

It happened more so in Insurgent than in Divergent.. I about deleted Insurgent four or so times... lol. It just seemed like a lot of waste. Although the teaser trailer does look good... I had my doubts with the male actor, but he looks fine.. and of course Winslet will never disappoint me.

Yeah, but it just seemed that most of the characters were added, then only slightly developed, and then killed off - then a new one was added, slightly developed, and then killed off. For every one character that was killed another was added - when the original character would have filled that story/plot device just fine. It was starting to become a bit frustrating. She could have used her core characters to hit the same plot points, in a way those characters would have suited the story better, because if she had taken the time to flesh them out, readers would have become more invested. It got to a point where I EXPECTED their deaths and that's bad writing. I'm not a fan of creating a character to fill one role (just freshly vacated by the character just killed off), for a chapter or two, THEN kill that character as well. That's what it seemed like to me. To a point you're just adding length and confusing your readers. I don't think writers should do that sort of thing just to add page numbers to the book.

Yeah, I was thrilled when they announced Kate Winslet - although I'm not that big of a fan of the books.. I liked them, but they didn't really stand out to me. Maybe because it was just toooo politically driven and the ending to the second book was a bit confusing and odd. Ashley Judd is Tris' mother as well. I'm just going to hate all the character deaths not long after their side stories get a little depth.. that annoyed the hell out of me. It's just disappointing to be introduced to a nice character... then have them die a few chapters later, and it not seem to be warranted or important. In my opinion that's a big flaw in her writing...

Ohhh gosh no.. *deletes what she really wants to say about this horrendous topic*

Country music is a song surrounding a story of some sort for the most part. All of those things happen to people. Same thing with Poetry, usually poets don't write what they don't know or haven't experienced... Rock has a lot of love and love lost and death ballads as well, so does Punk, and about every genre out there, the approach is just different. So really, I never understood that argument, "turn off that shit because that's all there is..." when really throughout music that's all there is.

Sorry, I voted for Author Interviews, because "Wacky Wednesday" is the title of the blog.. and those other suggestions just didn't fit the title of the blog at all. Keep your boring tips to other days and keep Wednesday - wacky.

Ah again you speak out of your ass my dear. Throw in a few vague words like "almost always" and "tend" and you don't think you're stereotyping, but you are. Just shows the level of real thought you put into most of your posts.
-
So you hate Country music, let's not be an annoying little shit about it.

Favorite to play: Basketball; although I think Volleyball and Football are fun if there are enough people that want to play. I suck at sports that have rackets or sticks so I don't play those often. Favorite to watch: American Football and Baseball (on television, I don't like going to baseball games, no matter where you sit, you're just not close enough for all the cup adjustments.. haha.

About every damn back road between here and my mother's house... and driving in the city where I live is hell.. probably one of the worst disasters in the state. lol

Yeah, she's hilarious, but to be honest.. that's how many Kentuckians act.. not many of us fear to look goofy and the like.

If only the Mortal Instrument movie had this sort of marketing team.. Not that COB is at this level of grandness though..

Happy Birthday Mann! Have a great one.

Heath Ledger? Amy Winehouse or however you spell her last name. It doesn't really matter which drugs killed these people. Any of them in their most basic form or mixture can kill at any time. Addiction or not.

Yeah, I liked that. MLB really did good.

Being a gay athlete doesn't make be a novelty or a freak!
Krista replied to Hayden L's topic in The Lounge
Likely won't get an answer - him being a Former Member and all. But, Britney, Robbie, and Jason aren't the first.. athletes to come out of the closet. Britney and Robbie are active athletes that are gay (also I believe there is an active boxer that came out of the closet, but I for the life of me cannot remember). So I doubt these four athletes coming out of the closet has changed minds. Read on coming out news posts on Sports sections of MSN or ESPN, and most people are over it. There are still a lot of people that are pretty homophobic, but those people will die homophobics. But, mostly people are more concerned with what their team is doing on/in the field/court/arena instead of what one certain player is doing in the sack. Don't get me wrong, it's nice that Athletes are really pushing against homophobia in sports. I like seeing these people finally stepping up and being role models... -
Well people just don't become addicted to drugs for no reason. They are chemically lacking something, physically lacking something, socially, mentally.. something had changed in the span of his life that led him down that road. And false pretenses are a part of all that as well.
