Some of the above comments strike me as ?.., well, I don't know what to say but let's start with patronising, insulting and ignorant. The characters that I have followed have indulged in "unsafe" sex ( itself a value judgement, perhaps), vendettas, murders, theft, embezzlement, etc etc. why do people suddenly get "precious" about the reality of drug taking as a way of recreational life? This is a (great) work of fiction and should be judged as such. Do we really want to copy the Catechism or create a new one? ps I have never taken any illegal drug in my 60+ years, except for sharing a joint which left me crying for three hours. Does this mean we should have baNned the film "Trainspotting"?

I recently read a v long story which was v good , except for one thing. there was zero emotional content. Whereas here we can see the emotional damage suffered by young vulnerable gays. I think that this is an exceptional piece of writing. i strongly recommend this and other writings by the author.

I am really enjoying this story. This an example of what uk families are about - at least my own. A poor maN in the supermarket queue once asked one of my great nephews if he and the other boy next to him were brothers. A simple, sociable question one might think.... The guy wilted as a 10-year-old explained that they were half brothers sharing the same dad.... I think you have captured the new dimensions of being a family perfectly. I look forward to the next part 🤓🤓🤓

A lovely tale in its own right. Bailey's situation reminds me of the terrible rate of infection for gays like him from AIDS in UK during the mid-late 80's. A real loss. thank you.

Yes, so true. I used to be a spokesperson on news in uk on cases where no bishop had the guts to appear. Then worked for 10 yrs with abused males. Many were victims of clergy abuse, as I came to realise for myself when a therapist called me out on it. But. Others were from parents and relatives. Finally, burned out I moved to Spain and learned that I wasn't a superhero but an ordinary guy. And that's ok.

Memories of first trip to usa. Landing at LAX I could see burnt out bloxks after the 94/5? Riots. Then treated to PCH ,up to Sonoma Valley. Great trip and an amazing experience of how good Americans are at making you feel comfortable.. We Europeans must seem cold and distant in comparison. A great read mr C. Thank you.
