Two lines stood out for me in this chapter .The first one was from the Pastor “I’ve been doing this for years,” he replied. “I know when a boy isn’t right with God.” that tells me that anybody in that town that could do something about this the police or local politicians etc. either doesn't know what's happening or they know and choose to look the other way at any rate the pastor has been getting away with it.Has he claimed to anybody that he's been successful at this? And what does he do with the boys he can't "fix"?
The other comment is Charles saying there is nothing they can do about it.Has he tried to reach out to someone?Is there something he knows that brought him to this conclusion?Charles seems to be passive but I can see Matt trying something Charles wouldn't
