    Helios Unleashed!

Thank you for reading and responding, Yettie One, and I'm glad this got you thinking. I'm not certain if the Doomsday Preppers have it right, but I do know if something like this were to happen then we'd have to adapt to a more primitive lifestyle. I'm not convinced there is enough wild game to support the current population, since we've become used to dining on domestic animals, but it would be something we'd need to do again. However, I know there are enough guns and ammunition in the current population that would account for a great deal of killing.

    Helios Unleashed!

Thanks, Wayne. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I did paint a bleak picture. There may have been others that did as Gavin and Rory had, but not in the immediate vicinity or at least that they were aware of. I tend to feel that if something like this were to happen, we're likely to see the worse of mankind come to the surface. Thanks for the feedback.
  3. We're going with Prime Rib, heart attack mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, several types of pie and lots of wine.
  4. Merry Christmas to those who work so hard to keep this site running!

    Helios Unleashed!

Thanks, RJ, and no matter how much I'd prefer to believe in the basic good in my fellow man, too often they have proved me wrong. I feel that if something like this were to happen, even if it was only a regional occurence and not a global one, the events I've indicated could unfortunately come to pass. Thanks for the feedback.
  7. If at first you don't succeed, pick a new date and try, try again. This article says the Mayan calendar might not actually end until Dec. 24. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/23/end-of-the-world-christmas-eve_n_2355787.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl16%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D249372
  8. Happy Birthday, Greg. I hope it's a great one, but I'm still going to keep the crown.

    Helios Unleashed!

Thanks,Cia, and I'm glad you stuck with it all the way to an end. What I hoped to show was that even though nature didn't destroy the world, mankind would find it easier to attack and try to gain by force, rather than trying to band together and help each other out, as Gavin and Rory tried to do for their friends. Thanks for the feedback.
  10. Hey, just look at it this way. At least you weren't foolish enough to spend tons of money preparing for the worst. I wonder how those people now feel about their doonsday investments? lol

    Earthdrown

Misreading feelings and intentions can lead to tense and sometimes drastic encounters. It's sad, however, when they lead to a tragic end. Interesting take on the theme.
  12. When your story started, I thought you were going to explore the religious apocolyptic approach, but then you switched to a lost civilization. I'm not sure if that previous civilization was ET inspired or possibly Atlantis related, but it give a different view of what the end of the world meant. I enjoyed reading your story.

    Chapter 1

The end on a single person's world. Interesting take, all too believable, showing how a single error in judgment can have a huge impact on your life.

    Chapter 1

An interesting take on the theme, with an other worldly twist. I knew I would never be on one of those survival lists, but I'm glad you pointed out the fact that there construction may be significantly flawed and still end up dooming the survival of the human race. Well done and extremely interesting.

    Chapter 1

It certainly wasn't the end of the world I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also loved the creative use of the holographic image. Great job!

    Breathless

If I were to think of the world dying of suffocation, I would have thought it would have been from the belching of volcanic gases and ash, not a depletion in the amount of available oxygen. An interesting concept, nicely played out from multiple points of view.

    A World Changing Gun

A very interesting take on the theme. Mom prepares for the worst, the family parties when it doesn't happen and Vance suffers. It was very believable and the emotions were clearly portrayed. An enjoyable read, especially with tpe upbeat ending. Great job, as usual.
  18. I do this as well. I find I do it most when there are things I don't understand or don't feel I can talk to others about. I also do it when I visit the gravesites of loved ones that have passed. My family background is primarily Welsh, but there is some Irish in there as well, but I don't remember anyone discussing this as I was growing up, although I did notice close relatives doing it as well.
  19. Wasn't it great to wake up this morning?
  20. Happy Birthday, Calien! I hope it's a great one.

    Helios Unleashed!

Thanks, Dolores. I had to do some thinking about the situation you mention and decided it was their only option. I'm glad you enjoyed the story and found it believable.
  22. Proper preparation would be watching: Earthquake Inferno The Core The Poseidon Adventure Deep Impact Supervolcano The Perfect Storm 2012

Bet there are no church mice around.

  25. Sure, why not party for the last few days, if you think the world is going to come to an end. The only problem is, the after-party hangover and cleanup are a bitch.
