wapentake - Word of the Day - Thu Jul 11, 2024
Paladin commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
My Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable says that wapentake is a sub-division of Yorkshire and certain East Anglian counties similar to a hundred. The word means "touch-arms" where "arms" means "weapons." -
Auditions and Replacements
Paladin commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in Auditions and Replacements
So, Kevin has some understandable performance anxiety in front of an audience of 105,000. I think he can be forgiven, as long as this performance anxiety doesn't extend to the bedroom. -
I'm a bit puzzled about Scott's house. I understood he lived there with his parents and expected it to have two bedrooms. Surely Scott didn't have to live there, sleeping on the couch bed in the living room. As strong as the temptation was for both of them to have sex that night, it would have been totally wrong. Scott is using his adult brain and being both concerned about Justin's well being and lovingly supportive. That's the foundation for a genuine relationship. I suspect Justin developed a crush on Scott when he and his family were spending holidays at the caravan park and this has now become love. I can't imagine a sudden real change in Peter's behaviour when all is revealed, but agree that Jenny already knows.

This chapter leaves me curious about a few things, perhaps even the mystery @Laura S. Fox refers to. I'm looking forward to finding out why Xpress have decided to home in on Jamie, apart from no longer having anything on Rusty or Connor to carry on about. And then there is the mystery student who is being pressured by his older brother. I understood that Jamie isn't a student so it's not Jamie. I'm also wondering if themaskedvillain who is baiting Jamie online is also the masked stranger who cock blocked Jamie in Chapter 1. I'm sure to be following this story.

I thought "bedroom". Not only for what you might be thinking but for where the action of the children's book takes place.

No need to apologize @Arch Hunter, this chapter has more than made up for wait. Mike and Liam's relationship is developing rapidly. I love that Liam refers to "our room". It looks like Mike won't have to clean out the room he thought he'd move into. He's more welcome now than he ever though he would be, and importantly he's starting to become comfortable with his feelings. Oral sex in a pool. Now that memory takes me back quite a few years.

A really delightful story @Ticklishboy30 about two lovers, who of course are also mutually ticklish, celebrating their continuing love. I love that after five years together they are still playfully loving.

I think I need a Latin scholar. I looked up "A cobbler should stick to his last" in Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable where it is referenced back to a quote from Pliny (23-79 AD) Ne supra crepidam sutor judicaret which Google translates as "that the tailor should not judge above the cleft" leaving me wondering how 'tailor' became 'cobbler'. I then put re supra crepidam sudor ludicaret into Google translate and it came up with "he would play with sweat above the crevice". I then noticed that only three letters are different between the two Latin phrases and that could explain this strange translation. I'm still confused about the 'tailor' being in the translation. Help! -

The English expression is "the cobbler should stick to his last". -
Eric continues to be considerate and caring with Kevin. He is looking after Kevin many ways. He takes him to hospital and police and has him have a meal with the band. All good and so far they're not fucking. Love is there. Like other readers I expect Chris to continue to be trouble. He's that sort of guy! Now when will Danny tell everyone that Kevin can sing? Kevin isn't the sort of guy to boast about his singing so someone has to.

Life is certainly moving along smoothly for Colin and Jason, especially with Jason being so accepted by Colin's family. And to top it off Phil is not only recovering physical strength but also mental and emotional strength. The situation with Susan is really distressing. Divorce can lead to so much anger, hostility and revenge seeking. Often money, property and children can be used as pawns in this attack on the other partner. Unfortunately it happens all too frequently.

“I need to know if anything has happened to them,” I replied. “When I came here, I signed a lot of papers, and I’m not sure what I signed since I was recovering from my stroke. I want you to contact Michael for me and find out if I signed anything away. Specifically, my home.” This disturbs me a lot. Having someone sign legal or official documents without them fully understanding what they are signing and any implications is outrageous and usually illegal. I certainly hope that the documents were simple and wholly for Phil's benefit.

Jaycen and Troy are so full of love for each other along with being so full of fun and playfulness. The camp out was beautiful and even the chilliness of the water didn't inhibit their desire for each other. Wonderful chapter.

From Groupie To Roadie/Lover?
Paladin commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in From Groupie To Roadie/Lover?
I'm not going to speculate about what happens next. To me Eric is very caring and protective of Kevin. He even organizes a toothbrush for him and stops the others teasing Kevin. Kissing and a couple of hand jobs doesn't sound like a typical one night stand with with a pop star. But then I haven't had a one night stand with a pop star, so how would I know what 'typical' would be.- 30 comments

I sort of expected the trip to Paros to end with Elijah and, who I guessed would be the son of Niko, falling in love, but your narrative far exceeded my expectations. A masterfully written and magically mesmerizing chapter. Thank you @CasualWanderer82 for this story.

I always saw Jamie as more good guy than bad guy. I seem to remember him telling Matty that Rusty was worth chasing (or words to that effect).
-
Great to return to Sunny Hill and catch up with Jamie. Nice to see Rusty in the story and Xpress still up to it's usual mischief. And, a new mischievous role playing character who might even outplay catboy and Rybalt. Great start to this new story.

I don't have much to add to what has already been said. The relationship between Justin and his father is dysfunctional. It seems that His father doesn't know that Justin is gay. Justin has asked to stay with Scott and Scott has developed 'feelings' for Justin. Scott needs to be very careful because Justin is still very vulnerable and needs to be protected, possibly even from his own desires.

Caxton is probably best know for his printing press, which he set up in Westminster. It is believed to be the first printing press in England. Among the books he published were works that he had translated into English himself. -
A really heartwarming chapter to round off a delightful story. Everyone finds love and an extended family.

Very valid point @Cane23 , Justin is in a good mood with some positives (flushing E down the toilet) when he leaves Scott. His father is outside the cabin seemingly anxiously waiting for Justin to return. But when they meet, instead of relief and reuniting, all hell breaks loose. Whatever was said, and by whom, displays a dysfunctional relationship.

"Death Of The Disco Dancer"
Paladin commented on CasualWanderer82's story chapter in "Death Of The Disco Dancer"
An incredibly powerful chapter which draws out the turmoil Oliver was going through and is going through. Burning his father's house and contents could be the catharsis he needs to burn the trauma of the past and allow him to love again. Thank you @CasualWanderer82 for this amazing story. -
Yes @CincyKris it was a big day for Ollie in so many ways. It is also a step in Ollie strengthening his relationship with Andre and Chris.
-
Another amazingly wonderful chapter. So much joy with Stanley, Colin and Jason. So much sadness and distress with Phil and Dwight, and some optimism with Phil and Gary.
