However, when the pandemic waylaid his plans to go to the Bronx High School of Science, instead he applied to LaGuardia, New York's premier public high school of the arts. Just as an intermezzo is a short musical bridge, Intermezzo brings together characters from other stories in the New York Stories series while filling in some gaps. Told from the point of view of Larry's girlfriend, Robin, he learns that sometimes the shortest path to one's goals isn't the straightest one.

Getting involved in the gritty underworld of St. Clement; the romance is cut short, and the adventure is turned to terror as both boys are forced to go on the run to stay alive.

This is the story of Gres Langton, a smart young man, who having just completed his University studies in Veterinary Nursing, he is informed of his single mother's death, on arrival home from a day of work at a veterinary clinic. after missing a few days of work, after the funeral, his boss, sends him off on a holiday, to help him to cope with his recently loss, and that trip changes everything for him.

Kit is just an average Aussie country Kid, who at the age of twelve, was suddenly kicked out of home, and sent to live with his widower uncle in the city, over 200 kilometres to the southwest of his hometown. Along his journey towards adulthood, he gets to travel extensively overseas, and eventually attends a private school in Milan Italy, where he become best friends with another Aussie kid from Melbourne, who is related to European Royalty.
