This is my version of a modern faery tale. There are no wicked step-mothers nor prince-eating dragons, but not everything is exactly perfect either. And it all starts with a kiss...

Maxie's grandmother tells him that love and hate are two horns on the same goat. One snowy January day a boy shows up who might just be that goat. Jesse has moved across the country to the middle of "shit-all and nowhere" and isn't happy about it. As the boy's move closer and further apart, they learn that love may not be enough to fix everything, & that both of them will need to change

Losing a loved one changes your entire life, especially when the loved one was also your husband... and best friend. How do you move on without the overwhelming sense of betrayal and guilt? How will you know when you're ready, and will you recognize love when it's right in front of you.

Newly coming to terms with being gay, following an abusive childhood and a failed relationship with a girlfriend, electrician Keith meets Thomas, who runs a local arts charity. Despite coming from vastly differing backgrounds, the two discover much in common, not least the need to come to terms with complex relationships to their fathers. But they also learn to enjoy exploring life together.

Just to clarify: this is a spinoff of 'The World Beyond the Mirror', although if you haven't read it you won't miss too much.
