Chapter 18- Dangerous Game

You mock your partner with willful deceit

Biding your time till two users can meet

Such sorrow abounds for those who must see

The desolation you’ll leave when you flee

With mind or body it’s still all the same

Fleeting reward for a dangerous game

Promises whispered in amorous dark

Ignored in light to indulge in a lark

The grass is greener some people would say

You’ll find naught once the devil has his day

To call yourselves lovers is such a joke

See for yourself when it goes up in smoke

Innocent victims deserve true concern

No pity for cheaters who crash and burn

Regrets will litter this route that you take

Sparse company for the bed you will make

Once you’ve engaged in your dangerous game

The life you torched won’t ever be the same

For such selfish thrill, you’re destined to yearn

When lustre is gone there’s a lesson to learn

The actions you take cement who you are

Sentenced yourself to watch love from afar

So when you’re looking for someone to blame

Remember who played this dangerous game

I feel your sadness every time we speak

Fidelity’s hard, it’s not for the weak

Too late to hope we could share the same name

I hope you enjoyed your dangerous game

Another dark poem- more purging. Dedicated to a friend.

So much strength and weakness in that poem. The last part really gripped me, having lived with my guy for over 20 years. Fidelity is hard. It's a choice you make and need to stick with. It's sad to see someone squander their happiness for a cheap thrill and then have to live with the consequences. Some things are just impossible to undo.

This will be real short.

This poem, and others that you've written, remind me that you've gone through this :( So, here is a  for you and your friend

I wish the cheater sees the errors in his/her ways but I really doubt that.

Thank you Gary, for another powerful poem

Thanks, Drew. Thanks for the hug. Everyone gets to make their own choices. But there is often a price for some of those choices. Sometimes just one pays it, and other times both do. I've paid... but so has he. I didn't make the choice... cheers... Gary...

Yeah, Fidelity is hard, but for me there is no other way. It's sad to know that something so good was ruined forever by a temporary rush. All the talk of soul mates turned out to be a cruel joke. You are so right... some things are impossible to undo... thanks for the review, and for getting this the way you did... cheers... Gary...

There is darkness in this poem but I see it touching the other more than you. The words are wise and full of strength in knowing what is right. You really are amazing Gary. Blush all you want, but take the compliment to heart, you've earned it. :)

Yeah, Reader. I need to write something happy... but it's what's in my mind that end up comeing out lol. In the end, despite my agony, it was him who lost... he hasn't been truly happy since. We all have our own guidelines. Mine may not be always right, but they're mine, and I live by them. Thanks for the nice compliment... I accept it graciously... cheers... Gary...

Undeserved pain is what this poem is about to me. If you agree on bounderies in a relationship and one of the partners crosses the line, the pain he's causing himself is self inflicted.
But there's always the other one suffering as well, if not more. That pain is undeserved.
One should consider that before crossing the line.
Another much appreciated poem Gary.

Thanks, Peter. There are a lot of people in this world who pretend to take commitment seriously, but don't. There's only remorse if they're caught. I think that old adage 'once a cheater, always a cheater' has much merit. Do you spend more of your life on someone who violated your trust, because you love them, or do you move on, and suffer one cut instead of a hundred? I think if you have someone who forgives you, you are extremely fortunate... but the die is cast...Cheers, my friend... thanks for the great review... Gary...

We've lived lives of happiness ... and pain, and yet and still we persevere.

So very, very true, dugh. And that's what we have to keep in mind when memories dressed as demons come knocking on our door. We've survived, so you're visit will be short. I appreciate the perception, and the review, my friend... cheers... Gary...

Oh Gary, I hope this is something from the distant past and not something current...or that you're writing it in sympathy for a friend. The pain of the steadfast partner is something I wouldn't wish on anyone, having experienced it myself a few times.
The anger at the cheater in the poem brings memories to my mind which hurt after all these years, and I can't say what the fate of the other party was in my life because I cut off contact with them once the bond was broken. I'd like to think that they never found permanence in their love lives, since I couldn't picture them as any more faithful with the other person.
Hugs, my friend.

It's both CG. A memory and sympathy for a friend. Even after all these years, the memories still hurt. I still have some contact with that person, and he never gives up. I couldn't forgive. Thanks for the hugs and the wonderful review, buddy... cheers... Gary...

Gary, wow is all I can say. No punches pulled here. Any why should there be?
We all have choices to make each day. And you likely know your poem speak volumes to me. Brings back all the guilt and stuff I felt and feel when I went there for a short time. It didn't take me long to smarten up and sort it out. I'm lucky I'm married to the guy I am.
Anyway, well written.. did this take long to write? I'd be very surprised if it did.

Hey, Tim. Thanks! No, this pretty much poured out. It is more of the purging I've been doing. I confess that things can upset, or hurt me, pretty deeply, and when they do, it can last a long, long time. This time period in my life keeps rearing its ugly head, especially when I hear of the potential breakdown of a relationship, or get an unwelcome email. I've let it go, but it still lives deep inside... Thanks for your thoughtful comments, and the review, and yes you are a lucky man :) . Cheers, my friend xo...Gary...

It's hard to say what I think about this poem. It is beautifully written and the message is powerful, but there is so much pain there too. Puppilull is absolutely right, fidelity is a choice and it's very sad to watch someone throw it away for a cheap thrill.

Thanks, Lit. It's a tough pain to be come back from. I never could have trusted him again. Enough said. Thanks for the review... cheers... Gary...

Very powerful emotions. It made me wonder who my ex is hurting now...

LOL, that's funny, Bucket... but it's also not. So many of us have been through this. For me It's something I guess I'll probably never get over. And when you see it happen to someone else, it can bring the pain back. Thanks for the review, Buddy... I know you've felt the pain... cheers... Gary...
