Timmy's Journal - 15. A Day Out and City Life

Two new nature based poems

A Day Out

I rise and wander through the wild-flowered meadow
Feel the sun warm me – chasing cold from my soul
Dawn comes gentle, with a pastel palette

The old oak silent, but oh the stories it could tell
Holds my back with ancient bark – its peace shared.
Above its branches reach, embrace, protect

Noon, velvet breezes dance, scattering buzzers
Babbling creek, frogs croak and I watch snails go slow
Sweat trickles, water cools as I splash upwards

Sitting, I watch the flutters by, the stingers zip
in my poor hand I sketch them, in words.
Until home calls me and the sun leaves long shadows.

City Life

In the city, people say that there’s no nature.
There is but you must seek it and
patiently await its trust in you.

Seeds I shared, and swiftly they left.
Each day the same time
The call I heard, as I waited

Now the tiny creature trusts
I will not harm its sweet,
Black-capped head.

Thanks for reading my journal and poems and thoughts.
It means more to me than I can say.

Hey tim
Both poems evoke wonderful images.
A Day Out is so relaxing and tranquil.
City Life is tender and trusting. Recognizing the beauty in little things. I had the opportunity to hand feed (fingers to beak) little birds a couple of times in the City. It was enchanting...
As always, nicely done and thank you for sharing your words.

Love these, but you probably knew that. Oh, to feel that day out as you did. Watching snails go slow. A beautifully turned phrase for the image. Velvet breezes. I know about those, and felt one as I read. I smiled at City Life. It is so enchanting, feeding birds, hoping they'll trust you. A perfect metaphor for so many beautiful, perhaps timid, people in the city. Thank you.

Thank you Reader! I'm glad these worked, I hoped they would. I feed chickadees from the balcony. Love to hear their call. They are such sweet little things, and their trust, well it brings a tear, you know?

Thank for always reading. and for your comments.

Hi Parker, um no, I never know that. Especially with these poems which I just imagine, like A Day Out. I guess it's what I hope a day out would be like.

And City Life... you see! A perfect example of what I mean. Poets say things but readers see so much more sometimes. I was writing about a black-capped chickadee. Never thought of what you did, it being a metaphor. So the poet, needs the audience to before they can fully see what their words mean. It's so cool.

Thanks for reading and your wonderful comments Parker. Always appreciated...

I have a love affair with trees, so the verse about the about leaning against the ancient bark and sharing its peace really spoke to me. I am blessed with huge birdseye maples on my property, and I have a few favorite leaning spots. When I look upward I feel so protected... and I do feel that peace... wonderful.

City Life is a poem that is a story about stopping and smelling the roses. There is beauty everywhere... you just have to look. I was picturing an ordinary sparrow, nervous and untrusting at first, slowly becoming a friend... It is a metaphor for me... friendship takes time and nurturing, and if you don't break its trust, it brings you joy... this was my favorite... Cheers... Gary...

This might be a bit strange.

but. if you have Spotify or something similar, go find the song by Sweetfire. "Love me like you do."
an astoundingly similar sound to what you've written. A bit teary here, maybe I'm more sentimental that I'd rather to admit, being the logical control freak I've been all my life.

Thank you Gary, I've never heard of birdseye maples before, but I looked them up. So cool! Glad you enjoyed this one.

City Life, I love to read peoples thoughts about poems. I was writing about trusting chickadees. And just look at what it means to you! Beautiful. I see so much in my poems once the readers tell me what they think. It's a wonderful experience.

Thank you for reading and your most excellent comments.
