The Great Mirror of Same-Sex Love - Prose - 101. 1978 riff on the bandanna code
.
1978 Riff on the Bandanna Code
again, this should be read in the tongue-in-cheek manner in which it was intended
a Gay Liberationist play on the hanky code from Mainely Gay Magazine, March 1978
(Note that I'm not making this stuff up. The word Gay is spelled properly in this material, for as soon as 1970, the Gay minority insisted that it be spelled correctly; as the proper name of a group of people, and not an adjective ("gay"). This was the same moment Blacks insisted it for themselves, and were denied it by the media until the year 2020. It's a very easy to understand principle too. Black (proper name) and not "black" (an adjective). Intersex and not "intersexed" (an adjective). African American and not African-American (a hyphenated adjective). So, if you write Black, you cannot in good conscience continue to use the straight slur spelling of "gay" for our minority group and its culture, history, politics, etc.)
