the Scuffy - 32. Chapter 32

Wedding day set

Monday morning, “Kev, are you okay?”

“Physically I’m okay. I’m worried abut the boat. Someone is deliberately trying to sabotage the boat, When we go to work today, I’m going to stop at that electronic shop and get a camera. We’ll find out who it is and they’ll pay. No one messes with my boys and their fun.”

“I think you are feeling better already.”

“Yep, want to take that shower we missed last night?” And that is what we did. Glen is the best medicine for me.

Arriving at work early, I gave Marge her fish. I remembered she wanted two because she was having company. I was well into it when Bess arrived. “You’re early”

“Yes, I have to go and pick up some items at lunch time. I’ll be gone about thirty minutes.”

I left Glen to deliver the fish, he did take some over to the fish market on Maple. I made it to the electronic shop and was back before Glen arrived with my sandwiches. I had a phone call from my lawyer, the adoption on Scott was set for Thursday at one.

“I thought they had to make a house inspection and run a background check on Glen and me.”

“I don’t know abut that, that’s the court time, see you there.”

On the way home, I told Glen about the court date, “Weren’t they suppose to check us out?”

“Yes, but Stewart couldn’t explain it.”

“Did you get what you needed at the electronic shop.”

“Yep, I’m going to install it tonight.” By the time we got home it was still light out.

“Boys, who wants to go crabbing?”

We rigged some lines and hooks, there were the boys sitting on the dock, all in a row, crabbing. While they did that, Glen and I went on the boat and installed the spy camera. “Do you think that’ll work installed there?”

“We’ll test it. I’ll leave the safety lights on and you come from the engine compartment as if you’re leaving.”

I set the camera to be motion activated. I went to the cabin and watched the screen. Glen came out of the door and I could see him as clear as if he was standing in front of me. “It works fine, I’ll set this on record and we can leave.”

“Hey guys, how’s the crabbing?” They had two chests full of crabs.

“What say we take this to the Wharf and get your Aunt Mary to cook them for us.”

“You know you guys are lucky Andy and I were with you, those mermaids really had the crabs for us.”

“I think one of them liked Peter, she kept putting the biggest crabs on his line.” I grabbed Peter and put him on my shoulders, the boys took the ice chests as we walked to the Wharf.

The Captain’s table was in their glory, evidently Jim was telling them they had to fish further out, they were discussing the pros and cons. The boys carrying the chests headed to the kitchen, the others found a table and moved chairs so we all could sit down. Scott went and order beers for us all, Barney knew what kind of beer.

The other boys came and sat down, “Kev, I told Aunt Mary to save some for her and Uncle Barney, is that okay?”

“Absolutely, sharing is a good thing. I’m proud of you.”

One of they captains at their table always seems to be negative about everything. “What is Mary sharing? You know any sharing done starts at this table.”

“Your right, your share is fifty dollars, get it up boys.”

Uncle almost fell out of his chair, Jim put fifty dollars on the table. “Okay Captains, I’d say you were a little short.”

Just then Mary brought out a large platter of cooked crabs. I saw her take a plate to Barney. “Dig in boys, the mermaid told us not to share. Any one who took one would have bad luck.”

One thing about fishermen, they are superstitious. I think Peter was the first to quit. When we were ready to leave, I gave a crab to the Captains except Jim, I gave him two.

“Let’s clean up guys and then we will head home.”

It didn’t take long to collect the shells. “Kev, the mermaid said they wanted the shells. There’s a gelatinous material in the shell they like to eat.”

So with one of the ice chests filled with shells, Nicky and Andy carried it to the bow of the boat. Nicky went to get his shell to blow, then he dropped the shells while Andy waved and blew kisses. Walking back speaking loudly, “I have never seen eyes that color, they are green but that is as close as I can call it.”

“You guys ready to go home and call it a day?”

Tuesday and Wednesday were normal days. I did work till seven since I knew I would only work a half day on Thursday. Wednesday night I told Scott about our meeting with the judge. “Glen’s mom will pick you up and we’ll meet at the court house. Everything is going to be okay.”

Nicky walked Charles and Peter home earlier, so only the older boys were left.

That night as we showered, “We are getting quite a family.”

“Yes, I’m happy with all of the boys. We are blessed. Have you picked a date?”

“I don’t need a date , I have you.”

“So you have picked a date, would you like to tell me?”

“I could keep it as a surprise, but I won’t, August sixteen.” I stopped breathing, I stared at Glen, “Kev, what’s wrong, breathe, speak to me.”

Catching my breath, taking gulps of air, “Glen, tell me how you picked that date?”

“I looked at the calendar, closed my eyes, let my hand wander over the page, my finger landed on that date. Now tell me why you reacted that way.”

“That was the day my parents were married.”

“I promise, I didn’t know. We can pick a different day.”

“No, it must mean something, August 16th it is.”

There's a wedding at the end of summer. I wonder if the mermaids are attending. Kev is determined to catch the man who is destroying his boat
