Lord of the Rings - The Battle of Dagorlad
Starting at 00:26

The Last Alliance
(The Battle of Dagorlad)

This is the final battle, the war that
No one could fathom. The last stand against
The devil and Sauron’s legions of hell –
Against the shadow; the darkness that fell

Weapons rattle; shouts of war; first attack
It’s the Last Alliance of Elves and Men
It’s life or death. Today – go down or win
No mercy show, for it is us or them

The battle’s raging; the ground’s soaked with blood
Swords are clashing in hand-to-hand combat
Ground troops march and archers shoot their arrows
And Sauron, the evil lord, steps forward

This is the final battle, the war that
No one could fathom. The last stand against
The devil and Sauron’s legions of hell –
Against the shadow; the darkness that fell

The enemy soldiers come thick and fast
And Elves and Men know that they will not last
The One Ring’s power they can’t overcome
The death toll is soaring; the end is near

This was the final battle, the war that
No one could fathom. The last stand of Elves
And Men; the chance of victory was slim
It’s life or death. Today – go down or win

And when all hope has faded, Isildur,
Son of the king, takes up his father’s sword
Face to face with death, he turns the fate
Breaks the ring’s spell and kills the demon lord

Thanks for taking the poetry prompt challenge! I like that these stanzas paint the setting so vibrantly with words; in that regard they are a great complement to the scene in the link you provided.

I also really like how you included the recapitulations, thereby giving a more fully experiential frame for the reader.

I hope you continue to experiment with the Rondò form. I bet you could do great things with it :)

Thank you, AC Benus. I’m glad you liked my poem. :) Prompt # 12 intrigued me a lot. My poem is not a classic Rondò, and the metre is probably not good, but I couldn't stop adding stanzas until I was able to watch the movie all while reading the poem - more or less. One more stanza might have been good towards the end of the poem.
