GA Writing Prompts - 67. Poetry Prompt # 17 – Childhood Verse

The Kaleidoscope

The kaleidoscope is a magical thing
It makes me wonder and makes my heart sing
Each time I look inside and turn it in my hand
It shows me something new and beautiful and grand

And with each turn the bits are swirling around
Like colourful snowflakes whirling to the ground
And when all pieces have fallen into place
The kaleidoscope shows me a pattern of grace

I love the kaleidoscope and the joy it brings
It turns bits and pieces into wonderful things
It's never the same, each pattern is new
Every picture is beautiful and stunning, too

There's so much to discover, there's so much to see
The magical kaleidoscope is enchanting me
Why don’t you give it a try? Will you attempt?
The trick is easy: Look inside and turn it in your hand

Close Your Eyes

Close your eyes, little girl
And do not weep
The angels watch
And will not leave

They hold you tight
And guard you well
All through the night
The angels dwell

They hold your hand
You need not fear
They’ll send a dream
That’s sweet and dear

Close your eyes, little girl
Rest well and sleep
And dream the dream
The angels weave

Chapter Comments

Kaleidoscope is a beautiful poem. Even though it seems to be a straightforward experience with a plaything, the analogy is there too. The child/poet is asking the reader/non-believer to stop a moment and see the beauty of ordinary 'bits and pieces.'

Close Your Eyes is lovely and sweet. Soothing words to make the little one feel safe and loved. It's beautiful.
