Musings
I’m lying on the ground, watching the sky
And I wonder what is out there and why
I travel there, faster than light, and see
Aliens, planets, and spaceships flying by
***
Bridge
A bridge in the forest at dim twilight
A drear dismal image of black and white
The atmosphere’s hazy, cold and unreal
A surreal scene of horror and fright
What’s going on? Are they going to kill?
Whose destiny is about to fulfill?
Who is the man with the rope round his neck?
Why doesn’t he flee? The man’s standing still
Could he get free like an escape artist
Who in a second can free head and wrist?
Fall, dive, unfetter, and then crawl and swim
And vanish into the fog and the mist
Sheer force of will, determination grim
It’s a matter of life and death to him
They’ll shoot at him at a furious rate
The odds are against him. The chance is slim
A race against time, exceptional state
He feels that he’s in control of his fate
Increased perception and his senses keen
Time is slowed; every bullet comes late
He stops and sees what he has never seen
The beauty of nature is genuine
He feels nature’s mercy and love: agape
A woman smiles. She’s reaching out to him
Nature’s compassion puts on human shape
Hail Mary, blessed art thou and full of grace
Holy Mary, pray for me now - because
The hour of my death I cannot escape
