Lux's Indulgences - 11. Hangover

Gloriously golden morning sun

Trying to kill me, blinding

With the retinal pain

Of a night well wasted

A body exhausted

Despite adequate sleep

Skin feeling dry and crusty

A warm shower longed

Breakfast?

No acid please.

Greasy and heavy,

Double up the caffeine.

Or should we start with

A Bloody Mary?

Hair of the Dog to usher in

A new beginning after hell

Tight hugs and kisses,

Fond farewells and a

Short ride home

Pondering

The days are getting longer

The snow brighter and inviting

Now for play and enjoyment

If one looks with a fair mind

What will this

New year bring?

And what will I bring

To this new year?

Ah... the inevitable hangover... should have read my poem and heeded my warning hehe. I liked your final reflection... it's not just what the new year brings, but what you bring to the year... thumbs up... cheers... Gary....

Thanks Gary!

I wasn't actually hung over this year. Just memories. ;)

I love this poem, with its visceral descriptions of sensations I recall too well. And the last verse's final question is exactly the right one. Merci, mom ami.
