Lux's Indulgences - 9. Things We Lose

Chance

Fate

The blessings and curses

We are gifted with

At conception

At birth

As we grow

Naive and unformed

We rarely understand

The things we lose

Just by being ourselves

Until we’ve aged

We aren’t born with

Our own expectations

Those are shaped by

All things surrounding

But expectations can hurt

As much as make us flourish

When we fail to meet expectations

Whether by misbehaviour

Misjudgement

Chance

Or fate

There are things we lose

How do you accept the feelings

That arise when you recognize

Those things lost

Beyond your control?

How do you regain control?

How do you regain pride?

How do you regain self-certainty?

Self

That is the greatest

Ultimate problem

To be analyzed

Solved

Purged

Avoided

Fought

Decisions of identity

Truthful or untruthful

Decisions of action

Fair or cruel

Decisions of fortune

Smile or frown

Decisions of fate

Decisions of

Decisions

In a quantum world

Can fate truly decide?

Can fortune be fought

Bent

Guided?

In some things

Perhaps

But in others

Fairness was never

A universal principle

I've been feeling a bit contemplative lately (no shit). Today, seeing a number of friends in the beginning stages of raising families and making strong progress in their careers I can't help but think about chance, will, and fate.

Lots to think about ... as long as you aren't comparing, or jealous, a lil envy is okay. But you need to decide what YOU want... talk about what you both want.

A lot of scope here. You talk of a journey and insights I've traveled and questioned, myself. Like you, I still ponder, and they only thing I know is there are ebbs and flows in all things, whether, life, love, desires... you name it. We search for what feels right and good MOST of the time, and we fight for it. Fight to get it, and fight to keep it. Hindsight has taught me that. Superb work, buddy... cheers... Gary....

Envy, maybe a little. Yet, I know I'm not ready for some things yet. We are all works in progress, of course, but sometimes you know that you have a bit further to go before you can take on any other new challenges, alone and together.

It's a beautiful struggle, this life and these emotions. Thanks for reading. :)

So much to ponder, analyze, consider...fight. Is it the self one fights, or fate? What is lost in the analysis and the action? You corral so many thoughts into this poem, but that only cements the impression of thought piling up upon thought until the brain is a disorderly desk top of ideas waiting for attention. This is a well done piece, which will require several visits. Thanks.

Several visits? Wow... Well, I am glad it is making people think. Thank you Parker.
