Lux's Indulgences - 19. Confounding Mystery

Sometimes the solution

Is so simple

And yet

Any attempt to grasp at it

Any effort expended

Is met with frustration and

Failure.

The point is to try

But also to not try.

To lift

Without lifting.

To relax

But not go limp.

To use power

By disappearing.

The solution is there

In your body,

But no one can teach you

How to use it.

It's a feeling,

Something fleeting,

Something to be

Chased with

Dedication

And patience.

Maybe

Someday

I will solve this

Mystery.

This reminds me of my muse. If I try to force him, it doesn't work... it's like a leaf on a current of air, drifting past, and I can only catch it if I don't look too hard.  Nice poem, buddy.

I agree with @Headstall; this sounds like my travails in writing. Or perhaps differential equations. You capture the frustration of tackling unknowns with more unknowns remarkably well.

Thanks, gentlemen. In my case, I was inspired by my struggles to master some of the more esoteric skills in the martial art aikido. But there are parallels in my study of music and other things as well... I am glad you could find meaning in it too.

You have my congratulations for practicing aikido; I’ve seen it demonstrated only once, but was impressed.

It keeps me busy and at least marginally fit, that's for sure. Serious training is like peeling back the layers of an infinite onion. Every time you think you have discovered something or figured something out or accomplished something, there is so much more to master. It always leaves me feeling simultaneously inadequate and driven to dive deeper.
