Lux's Indulgences - 17. Herbivore

Deep in the pit of my stomach

Tension

The search continues

But how to maintain the

Motivation?

When efforts are returned

With nothing but silence

Or rejection

And leads are not truly

All that interesting

It is hard to maintain

A frame of mind

That wants to work hard

And believe

Am I trapped by impossibility?

Flailing in the darkness,

As useless as I feel?

Perhaps not,

But with each passing day

It gets harder to fight

These feelings of

Useless inadequacy

I agree with AC also. Belief is not easy. Your words strike a chord with me. Yet like you, I still flail, and keep darkness at bay. You speak for many of my days. Yet there is hope, and there is connection. That kindles light against the darkness, perhaps.

Motivation can be elusive, especially when we don't feel appreciated. Whether a relationship or other aspects of our life, trying is all we can do, and in that attempt, we should try to be proud. Not always easy, I know. One day, one step at a time. I found this honest, and I very much related to it... excellent poem, Lux... cheers... Gary....

“ Herbivore- an animal that only eats plants. “ ( Cambridge English Dictionary) At first I had a great deal of difficulty with reconciling the title and the content. Are we so bound by our nature and physical / mental composition , that despite what we want to believe there is no possible hope of change? Is choice rendered superfluous, by our inability to “ eat” anything but plants/ change our composition? “ Perhaps not,” we are omnivores and as hard as it is to have belief , it is possible to hang on to the choices that opens up. A thought provoking piece. Thank you.

AC is right.. believing is the hardest part... keep writing these...i hope they get lighter and brighter.

It's a goal to get myself writing more again. Hoping ramping that up will increase my motivation in general.

There is always hope, definitely. Thanks for reading!

I'm glad you liked it. I was wrestling about what to title it, and for some reason I kept coming back to that even though the link to the piece is not very direct.
